To be emailing the GPs

It's impossible to get a GP appojntment. I have started emailing the main practice email address and asking them to pass a message on to the GP.

Is this OK? They seem to be OK with it, and they reply to say they have sent it on and then the GP will usually text with a reply.

It's stuff like referrals / specific information requests. I guess similat to the Econsult system.

I do the same with mine and seems to work. I assume the doctor on call/triaging gets sent messages from a variety of routes

Tryingformore1 · 30/12/2022 14:52

If they seem ok with it why wouldn’t it be?

what an odd post

lollipoprainbow · 30/12/2022 14:59

I'm thinking of doing the same as the E consult has been closed for weeks.

Orangesandlemons77 · 30/12/2022 15:07

I guess it is not outlined as a way of contacting them? Guess i am just being daft. It does seem to work which is the main thing!

I guess it's an issue if everyone starts doing it! But I'd you can't get an appointment what do they expect.

JoWawa · 30/12/2022 15:14

We cannot contact our rubbish surgery by email.

Georgeskitchen · 30/12/2022 15:15

Our GP Practice has an online service where you fill in a form with your symptoms and they say someone will be in contact within 2 days. I haven't used it myself, yet

snowsilver · 30/12/2022 15:17

I send messages via the NHS app. They seem ok with that as well as e consult.
Usually it's just to ask for a nurse appointment and they then send me one by text.

dontbenastyhaveapasty · 30/12/2022 15:17

Almost all contact with my GP is by online form or email. It’s efficient, convenient for me, and quick for the doctor to deal with. What exactly is it you are worried about?

Choccyoclocky · 30/12/2022 15:17

I don't even bother looking at the website to try get an appointment anymore, I go straight for ringing the surgery. I had to do that yesterday and they sent me an appointment text an hour later, for an hour later than that. I was on antibiotics by lunchtime!

She did say they're only accepting appointments for emergency ones that have come on the same day so I guess the other types are harder to get.

I'd carry on emailing if it is working out for you!

Thanks for the replies. Yes I guess it is better than phoning them all the time. Have a few questions about scans and referrals recently

Ours is a big joint practice and has a main email address and also an appointments email address. They usually reply quite quickly
