Implantation bleeding? So confused

(Reposted here as no responses on my post on conception)

I've been feeling exhausted the past few days with stomach cramps and a strange tooth/gum ache.

I'm ttc but this is the first official month ttc after trying a long time. Had surgery to sort my dodgy insides out and I have one blocked tube.

I've now just been to the toilet and I have brown discharge type blood in my pants... is this implantation bleeding?!!!!
I've always read that it tends to be light pink which this isn't - it's more of a dirty colour ?!

For context - I'd be about 8dpo ish. My last period was 8th December with a 34 day cycle length. My period is due 8th January according to my app.

So confused :(

Just gonna have to wait and see.

Implantation bleeding on my first baby was a dot of bright pink. Implantation bleeding on my second was 3/4 days of browny pinky reddy streaked CM. There's no certainties at this stage. If it turns into clots and bright red ("true" blood colour) then contact GP/maternity a&e, whatevers easiest for you.

All you can do now is sit tight.

judelaw · 29/12/2022 19:54

@BatshitBanshee

Thank you - it's such a confusing time!
It has now turned light pink when I next had a wee so I'm crossing everything that it was implantation!

Never had implantation bleeding. Best thing is to wait until your period is a few days late. I get it but even a positive test right now doesn't equal a baby. Better to be cool until you know x

Smilingthru · 29/12/2022 19:58

I only ever had with my first and it was a brownish/pinkish stringy mucus type. I didn’t know I was pregnant so assumed it was a very light and weird period (PCOS here so periods are variable!). Have everything crossed for you that is implantation bleeding x

Suzi888 · 29/12/2022 20:01

I was not ttc, I also didn’t time periods (painful day before so always knew when it was due).

Had what I thought was a normal period, some bleeding for a few days and cramps/period pains. We had done a lot of hiking and many beers have been consumed (not ttc!). So I thought nothing of it…. Until around a month later.

judelaw · 29/12/2022 22:51

I've had a bit more blood tonight when I've wiped - this was more red though :( I don't know what's going off with my body at this stage but 11 days before my period doesn't seem right at all :( feeling really down

OP posts:
Littlebluedinosaur · 29/12/2022 22:56

With two of my DC I had implantation bleeding that I assumed were early periods. So much that I used tampons (sorry if TMI but yes more than a few spots).

judelaw · 29/12/2022 22:58

@Littlebluedinosaur

Really? I hope it's the same for me. I don't need to wear a pad for this bleeding at all so far - it's just wiping after going to the toilet.

The timing does coincide perfectly with implantation but I think I've got my hopes up after a long journey of ttc already as this is my first official ttc month after pelvic surgery to repair me :( I hate this

I too thought I'd had a weird light period, wed just moved house and lots of stress to so 🤷‍♀️...a few weeks later after being unable to eat breakfast 3 days in a row DH asked me...test was +ve, and we welcomed no2 the following year 😊 We were trying but I assumed that wasn't our month. Didn't have it with no1. But, I did have short luteal phases the whole time ttc both kids. Can't remember what I did about it, but that could be what's happening with you now. With no1 it was a giveaway that for first time I didn't have soreness in boobs go away day before period due (instead progressively more sore as progesterone rose!), and when it hadn't started by day 13 I was reasonably certain, as I usually started on maybe 11dpo.

Purplechicken207 · 29/12/2022 23:13

Managed to find what I did for short luteal phase (sometimes only made it to 8dpo). I regularly took vit c and b6 in higher doses than just multivits, and I used soy isoflavanones (same regime as clomid). I have PCOS and had been ttc for years, had done several rounds of clomid in the past. A couple years later, much slimmer and healthier, ovaries were clear of pcos effects but took soy to boost O and hopefully increase luteal phase, worked for both (O pains were 😳 more than my normal). TMI but also used a cup to hold everything in for a couple hours after 😂 , ttc friendly lube, clear blue O tests (I seem to get o pain day of, so a day or more notice always appreciated). I didn't temp, as I found my fitbit resting heart rate matched perfectly. If plotted it looked just like a classic temp cycle so was a dead giveaway o had happened and when.

Good luck! And don't forget, if this isn't your month don't worry about changes from your norm - surgery and/or invasive tests can affect things for a cycle or two!

SugarSandWitch · 29/12/2022 23:15

Have you been tracking ovulation? Just that with a 34 day cycle you’re unlikely to be 8dpo with another 11 days until your period is due, that would make your luteal phase 19 days which is unusual, average is 12-14 days. A longer cycle generally means you ovulate later.

I would hazard a guess that the cramps you have been having over the last few days could be ovulation cramps as that would fit in with your period being due in 11 days.

Good luck with ttc x

judelaw · 29/12/2022 23:24

@SugarSandWitch

Yeah I have been tracking ovulation - admittedly it has been looser than usual as I'm trying to avoid putting too much pressure on myself (as you can see - I'm failing too! 😂)

I've print screened my app so you can see - maybe I'm misunderstanding it - not sure. I'll see if I can attach the photo x

judelaw · 29/12/2022 23:26

@SugarSandWitch

Red is my period from the 8th, the blue are the fertile days and the hearts are when I've ttc. Sorry if that was already obvious 🤦🏾‍♀️

OP posts:
SugarSandWitch · 29/12/2022 23:38

@judelaw

did you do ovulation tests? Or track temp, symptoms etc and input them? If not I think it looks like the app has just decided that ovulation was two weeks after your period started, which for someone with a long cycle won’t generally be correct. Of course the app may be wrong with your predicted period due date and then being 8dpo and spotting could easily be implantation spotting or breakthrough bleeding, I’ve had it with 3 pregnancies, one I had a day of full on bleeding at 8dpo that suddenly stopped the following day, tested the next at 10dpo and positive! Our bodies can do weird and wonderful things!

judelaw · 29/12/2022 23:43

@SugarSandWitch

Thank you for taking the time to look at that for me.
Yes I did ovulation tests - they were positive around 22/23rd

I stopped doing them on 24th as they started to go weaker. I did only do them once a day though instead of twice daily as I didn't want to be too rigid with myself mentally.

My app does tend to be quite accurate - I've had my gynaecologist look at it too right at the beginning of ttc as I was confused by it and he confirmed it did seem accurate for my cycles. However prior to this surgery I have now been told I had no chance of conceiving. Now after the surgery my gyno is very confident and optimistic that I will have no problems (despite having one blocked fallopian).

I promised myself I wouldn't be like this but it's so hard not to evaluate everything. I also can't ignore the fact that bleeding 11 days before my period due date is strange. Argh 😖

Thank you again xx

Blood still there when I wipe. It is less - this was like a stringy red blood thing. So sorry for these details :( nothing in my pants .

I just don't understand what my body is doing to me :( sorry again for these details, I've got no one to talk to irl who gets it x

OP posts:
SugarSandWitch · 30/12/2022 00:00

@judelaw

Ok, so positive on 22/23 then ovulation is likely to happen 24-36 hrs later, so say the 24th, then 1dpo would be the 25th at earliest, so would make you around 5dpo today at most which would make period being due on the 8th make more sense.

Oh I’m so sorry you’ve had such a rough time if it so far, but brilliant news your surgery has gone well!

I remember being exactly the same each time I was ttc, I could never just ‘go with the flow and wait and see’ I was obsessed about every tiny thing that I felt or happened, even now when I get cramps before my period I have to remind myself that it’s fine because I’m not ttc and my youngest is 5! Was so used to over analysing everything for such a long time (7 pregnancies resulting in 4 children in a 6.5 year period of time) I forget what it’s like to not be ttc!

Good luck xx

judelaw · 30/12/2022 00:02

@SugarSandWitch

Omg so I'd only be 5dpo?! That's concerned me even more as to why I've got blood :(
Implantation would be later than this wouldn't it :(

Thank you so much for talking to me tonight, I really appreciate it xxx

Still slight brown spotting today - not much but it's mainly like stringy brown mucus?
Not feeling hopeful :(

I was the same, and I had resigned myself that it wasn't sticking around but the arse currently stuck in my ribcage and fist punching away at my pelvic floor says otherwise. It ain't over till it's over OP. Best to be matter of fact about it though, take each wipe as it comes and you can only deal with the situation at hand. I can appreciate though after what you've been through it is difficult.

BatshitBanshee · 30/12/2022 17:40

And FWIW my cycle went screwy after my last pregnancy, anywhere from 34 to 38 days so I had no idea where I was, but I definitely knew I was pregnant when I had the spotting, think I tested positive about two weeks before that.

itssquidstella · 30/12/2022 17:47

I’ve been pregnant four times (three early miscarriages and finally one gorgeous baby DS) and I had implantation bleeding in three of the four pregnancies.

Each time it was heavy enough to trick me into thinking it was the start of my period (I think I had it from around 10/11dpo) and a dingy red-brown colour, lasting 3-4 days. It's only when it didn't get heavier and turn bright red that I knew what it was.

You'll have to wait and test in a day or two, I think. Wishing you luck!

judelaw · 30/12/2022 18:06

@BatshitBanshee @itssquidstella

Thank you very much both of you - im trying so so hard to think positive. My biggest issue is I normally get spotting before my period for 5-7 days :( the fact that my period is actually 10 days away does seem very strange for me to have spotting now but I just worry this is just standard pre period spotting.

Yesterday was a lot more than today though - it's definitely eased off and the cramps have eased as well. I still feel exhausted and have a headache but who knows! X

Littlebluedinosaur · 30/12/2022 20:19

My spotting was 5 and 4 days before I got a positive pregnancy test with baby 2. Hoping it goes well for you.
