Embarrassed myself today (Instagram)

We are going to get some windows replaced so I've been emailing local companies for quotes. Got a quote back and it was a young chap with an unusual name and I remembered I knew him from having seen him on a friend of a friend's Instagram. Thought I'd just look him up on there to see what he was like now - yes, I admit this was nosy and wrong of me. Looked at a couple of posts before my thumb accidentally hit like 😳 My name is also unusual and I have it as my IG name and I did the erroneous like within minutes of him having sent the email. I immediately unliked it but here's not a chance he didn't see it, is there 😂Now feeling like the world's biggest creep and in a bit of a fluster. Sincerely, Hagrod of Mumsnet

Has anyone else ever been caught creeping?

Why did you delete? Most people post things for likes. Go through and like every post he ever made then tell him you love his content. He will be made up.

YABU on yourself!

I don’t think you embarrassed yourself, just relax PLEASE 🍷💐

ComtesseDeSpair · 29/12/2022 15:37

You’re just a potential client among I imagine dozens he engages with a week, it’s unlikely he’ll even clock your username on Insta and connect the dots. Really nothing to worry about.

TinselSniffer · 29/12/2022 15:38

I have an alter account on fb for stalking accounts on Facebook as I know I would accidentally 'like' posts otherwise. My dh is not as careful. Yesterday I told him I'd found my ex-friend's fb account and the absolute state of her timeline. Well this morning he woke up to find she'd accepted his friend request which he'd accidentally sent when he had a nose Angry

Notthecarwashagain · 29/12/2022 15:40

There’s quite a big delay in notifications on IG so if you removed it straight away and he wasn’t on at the exact moment, he probably didn’t see.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/12/2022 15:41

I am estranged from my best friend ar the moment but still Facebook friends. I managed to call her on Facebook last night when I couldn't sleep. Complete accident but she must have seen it.

Squarerootofpi · 29/12/2022 15:42

Even worse when you're 4 family members deep into a fb stalking session and accidentally like the post of a distant cousin of someone you've been chatting to for less than 24 hours on Bumble. That's embarrassing!

namechange143 · 29/12/2022 15:42

I feel your pain. I did this on Instagram too when I was checking out my DH's ex. That'll teach me.

I'd scrolled quite far back so couldn't be more obvious I'd been having a right snoop at her in a bikini 😵

I did an experiment and if you click unlike straight away, when they go to their notifications it disappears. Unless of course he has email notifications on 🤣🤣

minticecreamisjustok · 29/12/2022 15:43

It's not that bad, I was being nosy and looking at an ex's account and by mistake followed the only follower he had so that made me look like a crazy stalker Blush oh well

FrostyFifi · 29/12/2022 15:44

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it, that's minor, don't feel embarrassed. Now if it was your DPs ex or something, that would be a bit more of a cringefest.

Squarerootofpi · 29/12/2022 15:44

I've just remembered I had a notification that the new gf of ex dh had liked my post on Instagram. When I went to see the notification it had disappeared. Happens to lots of us!

mickandrorty · 29/12/2022 16:21

It's fine just change your name and move house nobody will ever know!

HowzAboutIt · 29/12/2022 16:25

I did the same!

Stalking an ex's new wife on Instagram as she had an open account. Accidently "liked" a picture, quickly "unliked" it and when I next checked she'd changed her settings to private 😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/12/2022 16:39

He's a man he'll be made up.
