Fucking menopause can fuck right off

I am lying on the sofa exhausted by the effort of moving a pile of clothes. Because menopause decided that my already heavy and painful periods don't quite hit the spot so last night I had that lift scene from The Shining as my period. Now I am an anemic shell of a person in a cardi on the sofa. Trying to summon the energy to make some tea. I was meant to be shopping with my daughter's, but that isn't happening. Fucking menopause.

I have had some good advice on another thread this one is purely my ranty pity party.

Here for solidarity too.

Having gone 38 years of light, 5 day periods, I was awake til 3am on Xmas eve with weird goings on in my belly. Woke up knackered on Xmas day and literally flooded.

Felt shit all day, really nauseous and it was only after 2 glasses of bubbly that I started to feel better (had to be done!!)

I'm on HRT and hadn't had a period prior to that for about 4 months. Is that normal and should I expect more heavy floods in the future?

Otherwise I sleep fine but anxiety, irritatabilty and lack of confidence at work still alive and well.

Hi
What HRT are you taking?

CoQ10 · 04/01/2023 16:10

Oestrogel pump and Progesterone tablets.

And Tostran 2% gel.

How many pumps?

CoQ10 · 04/01/2023 16:11

Two every night.

Relatively low dose. May need checking?

Really?

How should the dose be determined?

Where can I read up on this as I feel like I put all my faith in the GP....

cleowasmycat · 04/01/2023 16:14

Gel can go up to 4 pumps and you may not absorb as well. Some private clinics will go up to 10 pumps.
I switched to patches for this reason.

Is it best to speak to the GP? O4 just increase?

Are you medically trained as you sound it?

CoQ10 · 04/01/2023 16:16

cleowasmycat · 04/01/2023 16:15

Thank you. 😊

cleowasmycat · 04/01/2023 16:17

You would need to speak to GP. Depending on your age they may do a blood test to check you levels to see if absorbing.
I'm not medically trained but have researched a lot and have tried gel, spray and now patches.

CoQ10 · 04/01/2023 16:21

Thank you for your help. I have some blood tests booked for Feb.

Incidentally I've just posted a new thread on meno and support in the workplace. If you (or anyone else on this thread) has any thoughts please do share.

I just feel so angry about having all these symptoms (apart from the heavy periods) and not being able to take anything because I've had breast cancer. There is literally nothing for us to take to help to alleviate the symptoms. I just feel so tired of life.

I was the same as you. Had breast cancer so couldn't take anything. Just plodded on. I'm 61 now and still get palpitations, anxiety, waking at 3am. It's not as bad as it was but I've just learned to live with it now. Not sure I'll feel normal ever again.

LitralViolins · 04/01/2023 16:34

I have been on Evorel / utrogestan for 6 months and am just about to have blood tests to see if my thyroid is working properly and if we should add some testosterone into the mix. I had to go private to get all of this though - can't get an appt with my GP for love nor money.

The HRT has so far helped a lot with the awful, crippling vaginal dryness, the exhaustion, the constant crying, the night sweats etc. But I am still libido-less, losing my hair, foggy-brained and not exactly full of the joys of spring.

It SUCKS.

Ihavehairlikeworzelgummidge · 04/01/2023 16:37

I was you OP. Had the mirena coil fitted and started the hrt patches. Wished I started sooner and not suffered for years. Feel a different person.

Beamur · 04/01/2023 16:41

Check again if you've had cancer - my GP was a bit reticent as my Mum had BC and a friend of mine has been declined by her GP. But another friend of mine is recovering from cervical and womb cancer and has been prescribed.

SunsetGoldenGlow · 04/01/2023 16:42

I second the Mirena coil, although I had mine fitted in 2007, around 6 months after having DS, as I couldn’t be arsed remembering to take the pill.

I haven’t had periods for 16 years! It’s been a godsend!

Only trouble now is, i’m 52 and unsure whether I’m going through the menopause or not. I do have brain fog and feel knackered but no hot sweats etc.

LitralViolins · 04/01/2023 16:43

@cleowasmycat 100mg.

Started on 50, then up to 75, then at my last appt the Dr said that my answers to the pre-appt questionnaire suggested that my oestrogen levels were 'not yet optimised' so put me up again to 100.

LitralViolins · 04/01/2023 16:43

Basically my arse looks like it's been laminated Grin

lovemycbf · 04/01/2023 16:47

I had a womb ablation for this problem, hands down the best thing I ever did
Periods virtually non existent since

2bazookas · 04/01/2023 17:20

The good news is, the menopause will fuck off and die and you will be left THE WINNER, cheering its departure and dancing on its sweaty grave. Hang in there, take more evening primprose oil, and as much reiki yoga and massage as you can get.

Trust me, if women knew what bliss it is to live with no periods, no risk of getting pregnant, not getting up at night to a crying child..... we'd probably all self ID as male at birth.

TheOGCCL · 04/01/2023 18:38

@Mezmer Low tolerance for exercise, weak muscles and exhaustion may be a sign of low testosterone. Can be hard to get hold of and is normally prescribed after oestrogen (since the body converts testosterone into oestrogen if it doesn't have enough of that either).

Taking testosterone has really increased my energy levels. Which in turn is helping my overall health and fitness. It's a crime that many women feel overwhelmed by exercise and instead become stagnant by a hormone imbalance that is treatable

Same. But just increased to 125mg and I also take testosterone.
