Fucking menopause can fuck right off

FlemCandango · 29/12/2022 12:53

I am lying on the sofa exhausted by the effort of moving a pile of clothes. Because menopause decided that my already heavy and painful periods don't quite hit the spot so last night I had that lift scene from The Shining as my period. Now I am an anemic shell of a person in a cardi on the sofa. Trying to summon the energy to make some tea. I was meant to be shopping with my daughter's, but that isn't happening. Fucking menopause.

I have had some good advice on another thread this one is purely my ranty pity party.

Can you get HRT if you still get your periods? I ache all over and am an angry twat😪

RaininginDarling · 29/12/2022 16:51

I wish I could have the mirena coil. Tried(failed) to get one fitted in my 30s and it was utter agony, I still shudder when I think about it.

RaininginDarling · 29/12/2022 16:51

And YANBU. The menopause is bullshit

Absolutely! I have

Summerhillsquare · 29/12/2022 21:19

Solidarity. I have survived some difficult things but this is an absolute bastard.

cleowasmycat · 29/12/2022 21:22

HRT!!!

Chicca1970 · 29/12/2022 21:27

I’m a wierdo and really cannot stand the thought of HRT - why the flying fuck would I want to prolong the whole monthly period experience - bollocks to that - I want to be done with it all - if there is transitory suffering, so be it - my experience is strange - plus side is no weight gain, no flushes, minor occasional aches, period headaches gone, monthly gross bleeds gone, monthly psycho moods & horrendous fatigue gone BUT I have rampant gum disease since being in meno and dentist says I cannot have implants when teeth fall out because of bone loss - so I am 7 teeth down with dentures and no one knows - dentist said it happens to a small percentage of women in menopause so I lucked out there - I lead a pretty healthy lifestyle but also work 48 hrs weekly in a physical job and have almost finished raising 3 stroppy teenagers single handedly so I don’t have much time to dwell on stuff. I work with a bunch of women in their 40s and 50s who speak highly of HRT but I would rather try and keep energy levels up with good food, sleep and my bike. The teeth thing is shit though … also, periods have been odd - fuck-all for months then bam - 6 weekly flooding, short bleeds, regular and irregular bleeds - roll on infertility! 😂😂😂😂

Squirrelsnut · 29/12/2022 21:32

Insomnia and anxiety were literally ruining my life. HRT made things much better. Whatever it takes.

BalloonArch · 29/12/2022 21:33

Oh jeez. I've been on HRT for what seems like forever. I come off it every now and again, just to see what's actually happening.
Last time, I was convinced I was properly ill- I'd never been in so much pain. Back on HRT and it disappeared within a week.
Despite HRT I'm having flushes, insomnia and general can't be arsed-ness.
Sympathies, it's different for everyone, but do try HRT!

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2022 21:42

Another vote for the Mirena and/or HRT. Life changing, in an emphatically good way.

Bayleaf25 · 29/12/2022 21:43

Solidarity. But HRT is marvellous.

Hazey19 · 29/12/2022 21:44

Totally feel you. Love and solidarity ❤️

Most HRT is transdermal and is made from yams. The only thing that will replace oestrogen is HRT. Unless you have a medical reason it's the best option.

LoveAHolidayOrTwo · 29/12/2022 22:33

This was me. I got checked out, turned out I had a massive polyp on my cervix. I had it removed and a coil inserted, this helped the extremely heavy periods. About three years later I started using Ostrogel, I wish I’d started about 18 months earlier.

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 29/12/2022 22:43

I am wondering what to do, if anything, as am 50 (almost 51) and stopped the pill, but how do I know if I am menopausal? Periods still regular but a bit weaker

mirena or hrt or nothing and just wait and see?

have seen the effects of menopause on friends and am a bit scared

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 29/12/2022 22:44

@Chicca1970 with bone loss do you mean osteoporosis?

would hrt not help with that? I think oestrogen plays a big role in osteoporosis prevention?

LoveAHolidayOrTwo · 29/12/2022 22:45

mirena or hrt or nothing and just wait and see?
I would wait and see, you’ll know if you need help. Some of friends who are around 53/54 have been absolutely fine so far.

mizu · 29/12/2022 22:53

"Anemic shell of a person in a cardi on the sofa"- great description and this was me before my hysterectomy 7 years ago every month.

Poor you. Every sympathy. You need some ENERGY.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 29/12/2022 22:54

Thanks for starting this thread. I've booked to see my GP this week as I'm going mad with the anxiety and hot flushes. I already have a mirena as I have/had endometriosis so had my first coil fitted age 36. I was worried I wouldn't be be able to have HRT until my coil was removed but reading this thread has given me hope! I'm 52 and have been struggling for a year thinking it would get better or go away. I'm guessing the mirena must have controlled or delayed menopause symptoms until I turned 50.

user1480097724 · 29/12/2022 22:56

I am 45 and The Itching began 3 years ago. The only plus side is that I save on heating bills cos of my ragingly hot skin. My last 3 periods, after years of light, pain-free ones have been utterly horrendous. Going through a super tampax in 20 mins. Pure, severed artery-style blood coupled with clots that made me question if I'd had some terrible internal disaster. I'm going for a scan next week to check for fibroids, which will result in me begging for something - anything - to prevent another period like the previous three, fibroids or not.

BMW6 · 29/12/2022 22:56

I'm way past menopause but remember the sheer hell of raging hot flashes.

My libido has died completely and HRT is not an option for me. Luckily DH has had the equivalent hormonal earthquake so we're on the same page as it were.

I don't miss periods at all, but I miss wanting sex IYKWIM.

StarDolphins · 29/12/2022 22:57

I’m with you, I actually feel like I shouldn’t be in charge of a house, a child, a dog & a house because I’m just far to tired to do it.

I look at my slightly younger friends still bouncing through life, working full time, loving life & partying & think Hahahaa just wait until 3 years🤣

it’s tough!

Pickledprune · 29/12/2022 23:04

Solidarity here 💜 I'm 45 and going through hell
The worst for me is hair loss (low ferritin) endometriosis on top of period changes, flushes that feel like a fever, palpitations, atrophy/soreness and extreme emotional outbursts and feeling low.
Getting ready to try HRT but have noticed an improvement with moods taking floradix magnesium. I know this won't replace hormones but I'm finding it really has helped, with sleeping also so those of you with insomnia maybe give it a try. Hugs xxx

Frightenedbunny · 29/12/2022 23:09

Menopause robbed me of a promotion at work. Went into an interview and forgot everything. I have been asked to reapply but what’s the point? My memory is shocking and my self confidence is shot at. I can’t compete with the sharp youngsters.

Pickledprune · 29/12/2022 23:14

The brain fog and memory thing is scaring me too forgot to add that one 🥺
