Abdominal Pain

Posting in AIBU for traffic. Had a lovely evening with family then headed to bed. Started with a pain down the the lower right hand side of my stomach - on the very side. This has radiated around to my back and to the lower right side of my abdomen. I am in a lot of pain and generally have fairly high pain tolerance. I'm aware of appendicitis but am wondering what else it could be? Anyone had anything similar - constipation maybe? I don't want to hunt out medical help yet as it's too soon. Thanks

My kidney stones felt a bit like that

Ringading123 · 29/12/2022 00:48

Trapped wind? if you have felt it move it could be this, can be extremely painful.
you could try massaging your lower tummy downwards to see if this helps it along.

Could be appendicitis or kidney/ urine infection!
keep an eye on this and call doctors in morning if not any better or worse.

I would get a hot water bottle and take strongest painkillers you have in house.

Thanks. The pain is making me feel sick. I have a feeling it could be kidney stones. Have just looked at where pain is with them and it matches. Oh joy!

Gallstones?

You can see a gp or a&e (if pain uncontrolled with over the counter meds - follow advice at back of packet) - they can give stronger painkillers.

they may be able to do a urine dip to see if evidence of kidney stones.

Knickerthief1 · 29/12/2022 01:10

Not gallstones. Had my gallbladder removed. I've taken some paracetamol but it isn't touching the pain yet.

Have you got anything stronger than paracetamol in the house?

You can take ibuprofen as well as the paracetamol, BTW.

Knickerthief1 · 29/12/2022 01:19

I struggle with nurofen and codeine unfortunately. Both of them make me sick. Nothing else here.

Any fever or other symptoms? I wouldn't leave it too long to get medical assistance given the waiting times at the hospitals.
If it's getting worse or accompanied by other symptoms (fever, vomiting).
Are you pregnant possibly?

Kidney infection as mentioned.

Thought I was treating a bad back for best part of a month until my legs gave way yesterday, apparently it’s the kidney.

You can never be sure. I deeply wish I had not ignored the first pain
in stomach as mid cycle on 21st Nov.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I dissapeared - I couldn't sit still! The pain eventually eased some and I drifted to sleep. Then I woke up with a sharp pain in my urethra and the desperate need to run to the loo! I figure that was a kidney stone passing as I've been fine since. I hope there are no more as it was pure agony!!

Could be adhesions if you have had previous surgery in the area. Maybe ring 111.

OneTC · 29/12/2022 10:28

Sounds like kidney stones pain, that starts at the front side and works it's way too the back. Women tend to pass them easier than men so alright that would still be a quick passage, it doesn't seem impossible

OneTC · 29/12/2022 10:33

If it happens again try and keep the stone, you can get it tested and can give an indication of why it formed

Thinking about it today there have been a few clues for a few days but I'm generally pretty tolerant to pain so didn't really notice. I previously had a gangrenous gallbladder without realising!!
