Or is it impossible to block YouTube channels?

DS is 10 and has ADHD and is very impulsive (goes with the territory). He plays Minecraft and started watching YouTube videos of gamers and ditto Mario Kart but now goes off down rabbit holes of gamers who play games involving killing each other with cars/by pushing each other off cliffs.
He has a very combative relationship with DD and keeps using the same words to her and he's recently started a new SEMH school where he has a child in his class who calls him all kinds of horrible names, and he has also used the same types of phrases about this boy. School seem to allow YouTube as a relaxation/reward and he reports watching the same there ("so you can't stop me because school lets me").

He watches lots of harmless stuff and old TV programmes which aren't on YouTube Kids, and he doesn't do well with us telling him not to do something/that it's time to stop. We usually use timers or Family Link on the DCs' Android tablets to approve websites and apps.

We just had to say, no grand theft auto. It's watching gamers not playing the game. But he's 9 and does what he's told. Not much interest in playing just watching others. He does come out with a lot of 'hey dude' etc. It's better than watching other kids (including Ryan) playing with toys though.

Sorry, have you got parental control enabled? For the age limit? Not sure how it works but it does on Netflix.

Yes, it's set as a Supervised Account with 9+ but it doesn't seem possible to block things.

I'm wondering this too. My DD10 watches some funny Harry Potter based sketches but also lots of shorts that I don't like eg how to chug cans of beer and sad ones where family have died which really upset her. Also lots of older teenage humour like "boys be like... girls be like..." which is mostly sexist stereotypes dusted off and repackaged with silly voices as comedy- it's all giving her stupid ideas that she can or can't do certain things which is unrealistic and negative- girls are pretty, flirty, desperate for a boyfriend, boys are strong, funny, disinterested in girls etc.

Is the only way to disable it on an iPad to limit internet time?

I've made a discovery: if you set up Family Link and put your child on YouTube Kids, you can just share any videos you want to their child account.
On an iPad, you could uninstall YouTube and put YouTube Kids on, would she then go on the browser to watch? My DCs haven't asked for access to YouTube on the browser yet (they aren't getting it).

Thanks for this I'll try it :)

Yeah we found YT a real pain for this, and also DS going down gamer rabbit holes. We just deleted the app from the TV and went cold Turkey which is much less painful than I anticipated. Then we can cast YouTube from our phones to the TV if we want to watch something specific.

You can block channels on YouTube Kids and share stuff to your children's kids accounts if they are linked to your YouTube account. I've only ever been able to block on the browser though so you may have to log into his YouTube kids account on the pc and block channels from there. You will also have to go into his "watch again" tab and remove the videos from there too! Hope this helps 🙂
