Tiffany & Co appointment

Blatant lighthearted traffic post.

DH has booked an appointment next week for me to pick out birthday present. Nothing flash! Silver range! 🤣 As it's a big birthday he wanted to make a day of it.

It's totally out of our (his) comfort zone so want to know what to expect from an appointment I don't want us (him) to make arses of ourselves (himself)! Is there such a thing as a dress code/etiquette etc?

TIA 😊

Is the Bond Street one or one in a shopping centre ? I've been in both and just rolled up in jeans , no problem at all, although didn't have an appointment

BungleandGeorge · 28/12/2022 18:33

you can wear what you like, they’ll be attentive whatever you’re buying. Was the appointment booked for silver?

Stuckinthemiddle1990 · 28/12/2022 18:34

@Tara336 Bond St one. I think DH has specified its a special occasion. Only open from 12-6 on the day we can go so we thought appointment was the best way to go. Seeing as we aren't spending ££££s maybe an appointment is too much 🤣 🫢

Your money will go much further at a non name brand jeweler! For silver (vs. diamonds or other precious gems) you probably don't need an appointment. Jeans are certainly ok, you're the customer and the customer is always right!

Couldn’t resist!

@BungleandGeorge

It didn't ask for price point apparently 🤷‍♀️

Never had an appointment but the sales assistants work on commission so will be keen to at least get you to leave with their details - don’t decline to take them (scanned via a QR card these days) especially if they’ve done some leg work.

I bought some gold (not terribly expensive) earrings there recently champagne and a seat was offered. Enjoy!

Pollyforever · 28/12/2022 18:38

I dont think they'll be expecting you to just buy silver with an appointment. I've got quite a few pieces of silver jewellery from Tiffany and when I've been in there the people with appointments seem to be buying engagement rings and similar.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 28/12/2022 18:39

I went in the Bond St one a couple of weeks ago. They don’t let you just wander around so even if you don’t have an appointment booked you have to wait in their ‘waiting area’ until a sales assistant becomes available. I was just wearing jeans and converse (and soaking wet). They asked me what I was interested in and what metal as they have a few floors so they want to take you to the right one, so it might be worth having a look on their website before you go to get some ideas.

They were really lovely though, it’s nothing to be intimidated by at all (I was buying silver too).

ClaretBarret · 28/12/2022 18:41

I’d not have booked an appt for silver, they run off commission and won’t be too pleased having wasted time.

You also don’t really need an appt unless you’re intending on a big purchase

NotToBeOrToBe · 28/12/2022 18:43

Yep i agree. Cancel the appointment but go in and see what you like and make a day of the visit !

Stuckinthemiddle1990 · 28/12/2022 18:45

@ClaretBarret

Oh. OK, appointment cancelled. I did wonder whether it would be too much for silver. Think he just wanted to make it more of an "event". I already have some Tiffany, but never been to the store before.

Every person I've ever dealt with from Tiffany has been impeccable.
Absolutely no difference to how I was treated when I spent serious money or when I've bustled in windswept and dripping wet on the off chance they could clean a tarnished necklace which they did and it looked brand new.

I think as long as you’re buying something an appointment is fine. It doesn’t really make a difference as you’d have a sales person with you looking at the items in either case. I’m pretty sure I know someone who bought silver for a special occasion and still got the seat and bubbly. I’d perhaps go in with an idea what you want to look at though

LapinR0se · 28/12/2022 18:50

Nooo don't cancel the appointment!! It will be absolutely lovely even if you’re buying the least expensive thing

AriettyHomily · 28/12/2022 18:52

Just go to the store. Then go somewhere lovely for lunch / dinner.

MistyIsland · 28/12/2022 18:53

In all honesty every time I’ve been into Tiffany’s I’ve looked like a bag lady 😂😂
No make up, hair all over the place, and even a hole in my top once!! (That was the time I spent ££££ on wedding rings)
The service has always been impeccable even when I just popped in to have a look at some silver pearl earrings which I ended up buying
Hasn’t mattered if I’m spending ££££ or a couple of hundred I’ve always had spot on services regardless of what I was wearing!!

Just to add most of my Tiffany’s is sliver only my wedding ring is platinum

Buildingthefuture · 28/12/2022 18:53

Exciting!! Don’t worry about dress code/etiquette etc. I have been treated exactly the same in those types of stores when I have rocked up in my work scruffs as I have when I am “properly” dressed (and I have a dirty job! I had to leg it in one night at 2 minutes to closing to collect my DHs birthday gift that I had ordered. I was literally filthy. No one batted an eyelid!) They won’t judge you, and yes, you will more than likely be offered champagne and a seat, irrespective of spend. Just go and have a wonderful time xxx

MistyIsland · 28/12/2022 18:54

@Stuckinthemiddle1990 re book your appointment you’ll have a fabulous time

Adviceneeded200 · 28/12/2022 18:56

If they sell silver then surely its fine to buy it! Have a lovely day.

poetryandwine · 28/12/2022 18:58

Another one here to say how beautifully I’ve always been treated at Tiffany’s, in both London and New York. Another thread today had me a bit down on the English so, OP, thank you for reminding me of this. I am a terrible, easily intimidated shopper but Tiffany’s always gives me a lift. I hope ypu enjoy it

Jadey31 · 28/12/2022 18:59

Don't cancel you appointment!!! They have no idea who you are or how much money you have!! Try on the big diamonds and enjoy yourself xxxx

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 28/12/2022 18:59

Oh, don't cancel the appointment! Go and enjoy the novelty of it! There's nothing wrong with silver, they wouldn't sell it if they didn't want people to buy it.

Go to the appointment and have a lovely time. You'll be kicking yourself of you cancel and then there's faffing and waiting for someone to be free to serve you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/12/2022 19:01

How lovely! I agree that you should keep the appointment.

I've only ever been once - no appointment - and was buying basically one of the cheapest things in there, but they were all very nice.

I didn't know they worked on commission. That's so shit.
