Laser for pigmentation on dark skin

I am being unreasonable posting here for traffic as Style & Beauty sees less action.

In the never ending quest for perfect skin, I want to get rid of hyperpigmentation and age spots on my face. I stupidly used to pick spots and have little scars mainly on my forehead. I already use retinol, niacinamide, vit c, lactic acid and SPF50 and my skin is bright with good texture but the pigmentation is still there. Signed up for a consultation with Dermatica yesterday to try their hydroquinone after some advice here but they have said they don’t recommend it for black/darker skin as it can cause “permanent dermal pigmentation (exogenous ochronosis) seen with the prolonged use of Hydroquinone in deeper skin tones such as yours, we do not recommend the use of this ingredient in your case.”

So, I think the only option is laser. Has anyone with darker skin tried laser for pigmentation? Did it make it worse?

(Yes, my skin is probably fine and I’m buying into beauty standards etc by wanting flawless skin but please don’t try to save me, I am a lost cause.)
