To take my cat for a coffee!

(Lighthearted, before any one moans) Since dogs are allowed in coffee shops, i can't see why Cheddar couldn't come along for a latte with me. (Other cat would hate it, but cheddar tells me she would love it!)

You would be welcome every single day to my coffee shop!
We are dog friendly (prefer them to some two legged customers) but we have had a cat customer once before, he was very chilled and laid back but stayed in his carrier for his own safety.

ThinWomansBrain · 28/12/2022 17:25

Typically, cat cafes have their own cats, they don't exist to take cats to, because of the risk of disease or infection for the resident cats.
I have a friend with an emotional support cat - she goes pretty much everywhere, and either sits in her covered cat carrier, or out in her pram.
My own cat goes out on a lead, but would hate being taken for coffee, she's not very sociable. Typically I carry her in her cat backpack to the community garden, and she strolls around the garden on her lead. She has been to tescos, in the backpack, not for a major shopping trip, but if I need to pick something up to/from the garden.
We used to have a tiny Waterstones tacked on to the local university, she used to like going in there on her lead, and the staff used to make a huge fuss of her.

Yes, YABU - but I can kindly come and cat-sit Cheddar for you?! Totally for your benefit of course, it's not as if I'm desperate to have a cat but have a child with severe allergies or anything.... (She looks adorable!)

I do need to find a back up sitter actually! And she is as adorable as she looks.

Apparently in Japan it's very common to take cat's out?
I'd love to take mine out.
Different breeds have different ideas

lollipoprainbow · 28/12/2022 18:55

Love cheddar that face 😍

BatshitCrazyWoman · 28/12/2022 18:58

I'd love it if cats were in any cafe I visited. Wasn't there that guy in Australia who used to take his rabbit for coffee?

hulahooper2 · 28/12/2022 18:58

Yadbu .,. Cats are evil work of the devil, and don’t get me started on them roaming alone all day , they should only be allowed out with their owner

Blueberrypeapod · 28/12/2022 18:59

I would love to see Cheddar but my (normally) well behaved dog would go berserk.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 28/12/2022 19:01

Leroy would like to go if there's dogs on the menu. He smacked the shit out of a lurcher once 🙈

Other cat looks like a black smoke persian?! Gorgeous! DH came home rhapsodising about cat on lead in Waterstones the other day - we both glared down at our siamesey, and said, 'why can't you be like that cool cat?'

(She shook her back leg at us, sniffed, and hoiked her arse up the stairs. . .)

bengalcat · 28/12/2022 19:07

Many years ago a chap round our way used to pop into the pub with his blue Burmese peering out of his backpack - cat looked happy enough - love Cheddar

SomethingOriginal2 · 28/12/2022 19:09

I wouldn't take a cat to a coffee shop that people regularly take their dogs to. You don't know how the dogs will react and I don't think it will be enjoyable.

DaisyChristina · 28/12/2022 19:17

Our cat Timmy used to follow my Dad down to the pub and sit on the window ledge outside until he came out!

Go Cheddar!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2022 19:25

@mbosnz shed black but I'm not sure about the smoke bit. She was also a rescue. As was her identical sister.

I would love to see Cheddar, it’d make my day! Not sure she’d like it but I’d be delighted. Much better than dogs and young children quite frankly.

HerMajestysRoyalCoven · 28/12/2022 19:31

Wow those two black long haired cats, incredible! I’ve a couple of mogs who wouldn’t be seen dead in a cafe, sadly.

NewBootsAndRanty · 28/12/2022 19:34

Our vets is next door to a Costa - I usually grab a coffee and have it outside while waiting for a taxi home. Usually I just put the cat carrier on a chair next to me.

GlamGiraffe · 28/12/2022 19:36

My cat prefers to drink mint tea. She's rather partial to the stuff!

Danielle9891 · 28/12/2022 19:40

She is lovely. I think if you feel she'll like it then take her. My cat is an indoor cat and would hate the noise of the coffee machine or get overwhelmed with all the people. But every cat is different.

Gingerkittykat · 28/12/2022 19:49

I have a friend who takes her cat loads of places on a leash, including shopping centres and supermarkets and the beach and the cat loves it.

She is a wheelchair user so the cat jumps onto her lap or the back of her chair when she has had enough exploring.

The only times she has had problems is when there have been dogs off lead who have ran at the cat which has caused chaos. Once the cat ran up a tree and she had to get someone else to get her down.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2022 20:12

I take her occasionally to visit my friend in a nursing home. I wanted to train her as a pets as therapy cat. As she's so gentle. But because she makes biscuits on me. She can't do it. (Can cause skin damage)

One of our neighbour's cats used to come to church with them / us. She would just follow us across the village green and sit in the kitchen drinking a cup of milky tea until the service was over.

the church warden's yorkshire terrier used to really hate this.
