Wont stop asking!

Name changed for this as my other threads are quite outing. Sorry its long!

Me and partner are away for a few days over Christmas, our next door neighbour has a spare key for our house for emergencies (we have their spare house key as well). We are not close friends just normal neighbours, They have had family visiting over Christmas/new year. On boxing day they text me and asked if some of their family could sleep in our home as more of the family had arrive unexpectedly! We said no because beds need changing and heating not on etc.(also I dont want strangers in my home)Well since then we have had text after text asking over and over again! I have also repeatedly tried to ring them but they are not picking up! The last one was very late last night (I was already in bed asleep)asking again and saying the family who they want to stay's car has broken down! I feel like packing up here and going home now as so worried they will just use my house anyway! I dont have any friends or family nearby who can check on my home. My partner has said they surely wont just use our house but I'm not sure they wont. 😥

This happened to me years ago. A friend with a key used my house to have her affair in while I worked away.

blimey, I wonder if you're prepared to tell us how you found out, presume she at least knew she was out of order & hoped you'd not know!

I found out as a neighbour commented on my house guest being very nice! I was aghast but knew instantly it was her from the subsequent description and fact she had keys. Confronted her and she immediately confessed and did the whole 'I need my space with him etc, please understand'.

It ended our friendship and oddly others too as many mutual friends didn't get what the problem was!

I got a new bed as just couldn't stomach it.

I don’t blame you for buying a new bed. That’s grim.

I think we’re all on tenterhooks for an update OP. Obviously hoping for the best but also hoping your mum gives them a bollocking regardless!!

I really hope that the lack of update isn’t due to like others have suggested it has ended badly and that the OPs fears haven’t been founded. How terrible if it has

I didn't get further details due to fall out so no idea how long or if others over the years etc. Total abuse of trust.

I had something vaguely similar. My friend was house sitting for me, and I came home slightly early because the company I freelanced changed my flights, and I came home to my own bed stinking of sex, with used condoms everywhere.
My friend had let her friend stay the night after going out on the town, and the friend of a friend brought back not one but two manky men to have a threesome on my bed.

I had to throw out a very expensive french Toile de Jouy duvet set and buy a new mattress. Disgusting.

Hoping OP’s situation is very different!!

The OP was home all the time, but wanted her mum to visit for a big surprise party for a significant birthday. Mum is an avid Mumsnet fan, so the entire thread was an elaborate ruse to throw her off guard.
Right now, whole family are enjoying Prosecco and cake.

@strawberriesplease Did you bill them for the bed? Cost of a hotel room multiplied by the number of times they used your house equals a fair contribution!

Oh good god. I’d definitely have required that house-sitting pal to pay for the new Toile bed linen. (Fancy not even making sure the illicitly-used room was put back in some kind of order!) There really are some very badly wired people around.

She was tight with money so wouldn't have got anything anyway.

It was a long time ago so meaningless now but what was a surprise was the number of people who didn't get the problem. In some ways that was more difficult.

I suspect Op has been screwed over by her neighbour but similarly not sure what you can do other than call them out. Not sure police or anyone would be bothered??

I might be naïve here but it might just be possible that the OP is just busy. They may have received an update from their relatives and just not realised that there are people on the internet waiting for an update. There may be no update. Both situations are plausible.

I am trying to channel the season of goodwill here
