Endless problems for years after an episiotomy

Sorry, this thread is a bit TMI so I apologise but wondering if anyone has had similar issues to be following an episiotomy 15 years ago after the birth of my first born. Posting here for traffic basically

At the time it seemed to heal ok (and my daughter came 4 years later with no issues)

But I have the following ongoing issues:

  • the openings are now ahem too close together so I often get infections and have wondered at times if I had a fistula
  • rectal prolapse
  • soreness and tears after sex

Its all grim and I am so fed up and the doctor seems useless with birth injuries as it’s so long ago.

aibu to ask if anyone has had similar issues & what did you do? I feel upset and a bit traumatised by it still even after all this time

You are absolutely not being unreasonable. I would suggest a specialist woman's health physio. In my experience, many GPs are useless for this sort of thing.

Sorry just wonders if you tears after sex as in its so sore you're crying or tears as in the skin is actually splitting?
