Is it sort of the perfect time?

Dh has just taken Dd, 4 to bed (I’ve done all other bits for the last few days. He’ll probably fall asleep up there.
I’m sat with a glass of fizz, cheese, biscuits & picked onions, a roaring fire, candles and whatever I want on tv.
Sort of love the build up to it all, but also exhausted and sort of relieved all
the lists of things to be done are done.
Now if I could just avoid thinking of my childhood Christmases and missing my family (we’re abroad and on our own this year) and not do the weird crying/sad thing I do on Christmas Day night sometimes…hopefully it will be ok
It’s not felt that *Christmassy this year, but my Dd is happy and that’s been my aim
Back to all the cheese 😂

I'm waiting for Eastenders and debating if I should eat some trifle but I know I'll end up with horrible hearburn and acid reflux.
No cheese here , my innards just wouldn't cope.

The cats both enjoyed some chicken , dinner went well but I'm knackered now .

Come home, had a shower, got in my new pjs and slippers. Toddler is asleep, eldest playing comp games with dad. I'm drinking tea and eating chocolate biscuits, looking forward to bed.

My DD has had a wonderful day and I’m exhausted. So yes, the evening when the rest of the family has gone home, she has gone to sleep and DH and I can sit in companionable silence contemplating going to get a bit of cheese out of the fridge is just perfect.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/12/2022 21:03

My sister and her DH and kids left about 8pm and it is now blissfully silent.

About to send my 3 kids to bed, and think I'll be heading there myself as I only slept 2 hours last night.

I have a fridge full of cheese but dinner was quite late (and absolutely delicious) so I don't think I can face food until tomorrow now.

DD(18) is ASD so has found it a bit overwhelming today with visitors and socialising so she took herself off to bed a couple of hours ago. Me, DH and DD(13) are working our way through Royle family Christmas specials. Had a big fry at The Queen of Sheba.

*cry obviously!

Cosycover · 25/12/2022 21:23

I've ended up accidentally pissed.

I am now going to eat cheese.

I am sitting, eating Christmas cake and watching Call the Midwife, the fosterling's in bed. It's been a better day than I hoped for but it has just hit me really hard that DH isn't here and I miss him so much, his DD has just messaged me to say the same. Our first Christmas without him. I am not sure which has been harder, this Christmas without him or last Christmas when he was here but disabled by a stroke and on end of life care due to his cancer. Tonight is another one of those times when I am starkly reminded he is never coming home again.

Hugs to you @bloodywhitecat 💛

Watching TV with the DC and DP. A nice glass of wine, cheese eaten, dog passed out and DS and DP working their way through a good bottle of whisky

whoamitojudge · 25/12/2022 21:33

Sukisal · 25/12/2022 21:42

Got a cup of coffee, dispatched DC ago bed, the dogs are sleeping and I am eating my chocolate coins.

going to watch an episode of lucifer and go to bed myself! Lovely.

as my parting comment, I’ll say that I cant stand cheese. Vile stuff. And now I’ll get my hat and coat….

dementedma · 25/12/2022 21:46

Off to bed. Been a lovely day.

Supersimkin2 · 25/12/2022 22:12

Falling asleep on sofa - cats bloated and comatose in bed. Terrestrial TV’s really given up, hasnt it. Watching Wolf Hall. Soothing.

Teeny pile of presents all lovely treats, every one.

Off to fight fat pet for fleecy duvet.
