Unsuitable Christmas gift for a 3 yo

I have a close friend who has a DC the same age as mine - both 3 y/o. They have previously bought their DC things I think are unsuitable for their age. This year they have bought him a BB gun/ air rifle. So AIBU to think this is completely inappropriate? Or should I just not have an opinion on what other people buy their kids…

More than one post on FB in our area "anyone seen a drone in x area. It's my 5 year old Christmas present. He lost it in someone's garden"

I mean how is a 5 year old supposed to control a drone in a housing estate. At least take it to a field miles from anywhere.

Wait what? A real BB / air riffle? Are they big on hunting and want to start them early shooting?

I would have the same opinion as you but smile nicely and nod my head. I never comment on other peoples kids. Saying anything will just upset them and they will still go ahead with present / or the way they parent etc.

@PissedAgain think we must be in the same area

I would be unhappy with someone buying my kud an air rifle at age! Not a nerf gun?

cinnabongene · 25/12/2022 19:37

An actual working air rifle? Are you in America? If not, this didn’t happen

Mumclub · 25/12/2022 19:39

No! I think his dad maybe had these types of guns when he was younger…

I would not let my child play with them.
Is this actually true? A real BB gun?
They blind people and harm or even kill animals.

Mumclub · 25/12/2022 19:42

Yes it’s true I remember kids having them when I was younger but maybe teenagers… I presume they plan on letting him use it under their supervision only but still

My brother got his first air rifle when he was 3. My Dad had them and I guess that was why? They used to hunt rabbits etc together (for eating). He ended up with a few air rifles and they were always used very responsibly because they are basically proper guns. Whereas BB guns I saw used a lot like toys and kids often ended up getting accidentally shot, which was bloody painful.
