DC4 sore neck?

legofootcasualty · 25/12/2022 12:59

This morning he was fine but suddenly turned tired and weepy, then started saying his neck hurt 'like a bruise' on the right side. He feels warm but not hot (thermometer has run out of battery) and he screamed when I accidentally touched the side of his neck and shouted that it hurt. Both sides of his neck look a bit swollen (noticed before he said anything) but he says only the one side hurts.

Now he's just teary and curled up on the sofa. Any idea what it sounds like/experience with similar?

Your poor Ds, thats nothing you can treat at home so why not dial 111? If they are too busy to pick up use the web link;
111.nhs.uk/

Call 111.

any neck stiffness or dislike of bright lights or rash it’s 999.

Do you have ibuprofen in? It could be any kind of illness or infection making the glands in his neck swell.

Thanks all. Have just got through to 111 and a doctor will call us back within 6 hours. Poor DS on the couch shivering and saying he's cold :( hopefully nothing serious and he'll be better soon

Sounds like his glands could be up on his neck which is why it's sore? Sign of his body fighting a bug. Hopefully nothing serious but fingers crossed a doctor will ring you back soon!

Hope he’s feeling better now.

He's much better, thank you to all who replied :)
His neck swelled more and he fell asleep and we couldn't easily wake him up so rushed to A&E and were prescribed antibiotics.
Dr said he was very brave saying it didn't hurt when she examined the swelling, because she could tell it did by the way he was holding his head and not opening his mouth to talk. Poor thing!
But he got a Christmas present and someone was handing out sweets so overall not too bad, and this morning woke up and asked for his Christmas breakfast again because his throat was feeling better now 😁

My DS had the same thing! He’s fine today but was really worried.. Glad your son’s ok.
