To think Purple Rain is over rated

I heard it for the first time today after hearing it referenced in pop culture forever.

My god I was disappointed 😞.

What is so special about it?

One of the most amazing television performances I ever saw was Prince doing Purple Rain at the SuperBowl half-time show.

It's usually an overproduced, mediocre show. And there comes Prince, with perfect timing, playing Purple Rain in the rain, like (as one commentator put it) God was doing his special effects.

And the crowd, of all ages and races and classes, and I'm sure bitterly different politics, for one moment all stopped and sang together and it was fucking magical.

Totally agree his Super bowl performance was incredible. But that's because he's an outstanding performer. He could sing the phone book and make it sound amazing!

What was so good about Prince was you couldn’t pigeonhole him.

l was a Goth when he was around. But all the Goths l knew were mad for him. We loved him even more when we found out he wanted to sign the Cocteau Twins.

I saw Prince perform this live on two occasions, I absolutely loved him. Of course you’re not being unreasonable though. We’re talking about a musical preference, reasonable and unreasonable don’t enter into it.

I like it although it's not my favourite Prince song. The Nicolas Cage primal scream karaoke version is ... something else again though. Definitely don't listen to that version OP!
