Being Santa is the most stressful thing you can be

Ok, so I started this same thread last year.

This is for all the adults sitting up waiting for their children to fall asleep so they can fill stockings.

Last year my DD could not get to sleep and I was up for hours after I was ready for bed waiting for Santa time.

So who's still waiting? How are you doing?

Question for those who do stockings upstairs.

Where does everything else from Santa go?? Or does Santa just do stocking?

In our house stocking stays by fireplace and everything else put there too, Santa only brings the 2-3 things on their list. Everything else comes from us.

Here santa is just stocking, everything under the tree is from us. We haven't progressed to list writing yet but when we do I'll casually say santa can only fit some in the stocking, other people like family might buy some of it for you.
This is first year properly doing it (oldest had just turned 2 last year, now 3) and we went for bedroom door handles (the outside!!). This way its also super clear what we bought for them vs santa. Had this as kids and always unwrapped stocking presents in someone's bed, all of us together! Then downstairs and we hopped foot to foot waiting for parents to make their cups of tea before we could tear into all the presents under the tree!!

Not until now 😂

tiredfriday · 24/12/2022 23:44

Sorry 😁

Fruitbatdancer · 24/12/2022 23:45

I have an 8 year old. He’s finally asleep but stirred when I went in with sack (he insisted it was in his room as this year he was ‘finally going to catch Santa and say hi!’ Lord above I’m too old for this commando crawling around trying to not rustle the bloody sack malarkey, the sense of relief is huge! I am SAS Ninja ready! At least if he wakes now the magic won’t be spoilt, I thought last year would be the last but nope he’s a firm believer (helps we put him in a small school where they go extra mile to make sure older ones keep magic alive for the smalls!)

PikachusSmarterBrother · 24/12/2022 23:46

I worry about burglars on Christmas Eve - Here you are Mr Burglar, and we even wrapped everything for you too 🙈.

I'll be awake half the night. And I haven't done the stocking drop yet.

PissedAgain · 24/12/2022 23:46

Mine are still awake. I just want to sleep.

Whyjustwhy123 · 24/12/2022 23:47

Just gone round the house to double check all doors for this reason. Saying that this year any burglar would have to be heavily into makeup and skin care due to teenage DDs. No game console or phones here 🤣

Whyjustwhy123 · 24/12/2022 23:47

Sorry that was for @tiredfriday

Purplechicken207 · 24/12/2022 23:48

My two (3yo and 10mo) were tucked up before 7pm, in their matching pjs. 3yo announced it was bedtime about 30 mins early, we agreed 😂 10mo was a grumpy tired thing so final feed and bunged in bed shortly after.
Hadn't even occurred to me to leave the wrapping, I had everything wrapped a few days ago, so we spent the evening watching a film and eating mince pies. Stockings now hung on bedroom door handles, presents from us piled under the tree. First year 3yo gets the whole santa thing 😊

ProfessorInkling · 24/12/2022 23:48

Just done ours now, DSD is 10, DD12, DS15…. our first Christmas living all together. It’s not cinema perfect but it’s quite nice. I’m exhausted 😴

Vgbeat · 24/12/2022 23:48

Still waiting for 12 year old to go to sleep to do stocking and all pressies are in the spare room next to her bedroom

Whyjustwhy123 · 24/12/2022 23:49

Stayed up to do stockings (though both are fully aware of who Santa is).

But can’t get to sleep due to drinking too much wine earlier in the day and also the beginnings of a cough.

good luck all those Santas out there.

Andsoforth · 24/12/2022 23:50

My asd ds was prescribed melatonin earlier this year and this is the first ever Christmas Eve he’s been asleep at a reasonable time.

I, on the other hand, am wide awake Confused

feliciabirthgiver · 24/12/2022 23:50

All done...slipping into bed now to join DH who has been snoring for the last 30 minutes!

Whyjustwhy123 · 24/12/2022 23:50

Me too @Andsoforth

Cant sleep!

thank goodness for MN!!!

NosyNeighbour22 · 24/12/2022 23:51

I’m still up wrapping the kids presents because I’m an absolute dickhead. I let myself down every year without fail 😭

sunflowerdaisyrose · 24/12/2022 23:57

I'm giving up and going to sleep, looks like they'll find out the truth tomorrow when they wake to empty stockings and have to wait for us to wake to fill them! Have a great christmas everyone

reallyworriedjobhunter · 24/12/2022 23:57

Just done ours. My wardrobe is suddenly looking like I'll have room to put my clothes away again.

Beginningless · 25/12/2022 00:03

Just finished and in bed. That was a fecking mission, my back is breaking!! I’d love a hot water bottle on my sore back but no way going to risk putting kettle on after stockings hung. Well done everyone and solidarity to PP who called themselves a dickhead - don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s mental hard work this parenting thing and I’m sure you’ve done great.

Gingerlygreen · 25/12/2022 00:15

I've just done the presents downstairs, took me ages to arrange them so the piles looked the same size then I realised I hadn't put anything in the sacks they left out so had to redo it all.

I'm about to do the stockings which I always dread because dd has a creaky floorboard.

lowire · 25/12/2022 00:23

I've been stressing about this night for weeks! I can't believe It's done.
I was so tired before but now feel wide awake.

I didn't want anything sticking out the stocking because if dc see if they will get excited. One thing is sticking out though and it's too noisy to push down.
Never mind.

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope we all have a good one Xmas Smile

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 25/12/2022 00:28

Ive still got 2 awake and im seriously debating whether 5 and 7 is to young to tell them im santa and im tired so they will get presents when i wake up 🤔

JustAnotherManicNameChange · 25/12/2022 00:29

Ughhh.. she's asleep(finally), presents under the tree, stocking above her bed and I can't bloody sleep!!

Jennybeans401 · 25/12/2022 00:30

@RagzRebooted that made me laugh! I nearly fell asleep waiting for dcs to nod off. Thank god I managed to stay awake, I doubt I could function at 3am!!
