Being Santa is the most stressful thing you can be

Ok, so I started this same thread last year.

This is for all the adults sitting up waiting for their children to fall asleep so they can fill stockings.

Last year my DD could not get to sleep and I was up for hours after I was ready for bed waiting for Santa time.

So who's still waiting? How are you doing?

My two are both still awake! One excited and the other terrified of a strange magical man coming into our home! Currently have one stocking upstairs and one downstairs...

Hugasauras · 24/12/2022 22:50

We only do stockings and one gift from Santa. The gift is downstairs by the fireplace beside the empty plate and glass!

Yea exactly the same here

Star8181 · 24/12/2022 23:10

10 year old still awake here, other 2 asleep. I’m so grumpy without sleep! 😆

SKIPWAY · 24/12/2022 23:10

Thanks to my youngest being absolutely appalled I would let a man in her room while she was sleeping she has always insisted they were left on hooks by the front door. Suited me fine 😂😂

Ukelele101 · 24/12/2022 23:11

This was me last year 🤣🤣

TangoTarantella · 24/12/2022 23:11

Still waiting for 9 year old to drop off. Trying not to fall asleep on the sofa zzzz

VaguelyStrange · 24/12/2022 23:13

They are still awake... and I still have some wrapping to do

WondrousWinger · 24/12/2022 23:15

I go to bed as normal, set an alarm for 4am and then switch them over

Oh good grief, I could never. The thought of that alarm not waking me 🤢

iamop · 24/12/2022 23:17

Okay mine are out and I'm in bed. Phew over for another year

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/12/2022 23:20

I have 1 asleep, 1 just woken up with a sore throat and another who has ASD amd struggles to sleep at the best of times. Im currently laying next to him trying to get him to sleep. We dont hang stockings before bed they are delivered by santa so I just have to pop them in to their rooms when they ar easleep. Have got to get all the presrnts out of the cupboard yet.

Greyarea12 · 24/12/2022 23:21

Yep still waiting.. this is very likely to be my last year where dd believes in santa and although I will really miss doing the Reindeer dust, santa key, cookies and milk etc I will be glad that I won't have the fear in me every year that she is going to wake up half way through me crumbling the cookie, pouring the milk down the sink and putting out the santa presents.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 24/12/2022 23:22

This is the first year I have everything wrapped before Xmas Eve. Usually I am maniacally wrapping now. Instead I'm drinking Baileys...DD(9) went straight to sleep surprisingly, just waiting for DS(12) to give in and sleep...

DogGreen · 24/12/2022 23:23

My teens are still all wide awake and bouncing around. I'm so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open. Just about to brief DH on everything to go in the stockings but it's a wrench. I've been wrapping for what feels like weeks.

They may not believe in Santa but the tradition is sacred.

coffeeneeded · 24/12/2022 23:27

My DD just surprised me by coming out of her room just as I was getting the stocking fillers out of the loft room.

I fell down the stairs

Not ideal

Oh no 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you ok?

coffeeneeded · 24/12/2022 23:29

I'll be bruised.... but I haven't shown my arse to anyone in years anyway so no one will notice.

Poinsettas · 24/12/2022 23:31

No idea why I haven’t switched to stockings downstairs - IDIOT!!!! Ah well. Fairly sure it’s safe, will be going in momentarily.

Fuckitydoodah · 24/12/2022 23:32

I stupidly went to check on my two and 10yr old DS woke up. I had to wait another half an hour. We leave them downstairs by the fireplace. I'm in bed but now I'm wide awake. I can't remember a Christmas day where I didn't feel absolutely knackered 🥱

My almost 3 yo went to bed at 7pm, got herself all worked up and promptly threw up all over her bed, floor and brand new Christmas pjs Confused. She's still not asleep and has been crying on and off all night.
Currently 24 weeks pregnant so can't even drown my sorrows.
So fed up. Santa can do one... Xmas Wink

We've had identical stockings for years. Normally, I have done the pre-filled one in advance so know what fits and what is going under the tree. Didn't do that this year, hardly anything other than the tube of sweets fits in the stocking as I seem to have a lot of rigid, rectangular items so I had to raid the airing cupboard for pillowcases to accompany the stockings.
My bigger issue is that 47yo BIL has gone to bed taking his empty stocking with him rather than leave it by his door. I don't want to sneak into his room! I can't quite remember why we started doing stockings for all adult guests but we've done it for years now. It's usually simple as everyone gets a satsuma, a chocolate orange, a book and a can of G&T. Just before I deliver the DC's, I fill the adult's ones too and leave them by their bedroom door. I think I'm just going to stack BIL's items outside his bedroom door.

Sleeptightnightlight · 24/12/2022 23:35

Hugasauras · 24/12/2022 22:08

You need two identical stockings! Prefill the second one at your leisure and then you just need to do a really quick swap once they're asleep.

Not much use this year but maybe for the future.

I've seen this suggestion before and it's genius and I really wish I had remembered it when I made my kids their first stockings (that they are now too attached to to change, and I don't have matching material to make more).

Starlightstarbright1 · 24/12/2022 23:40

My worst year was Ds was poorly.. had been sleeping in my bed but put him back in his own room Christmas Eve...i did Santa's job went to the loo on thr way to bed.. Ds wakes up.. i had to jump off the loo and bundle him in my room.🤣..

Ds is now 15.. i make him go in his room in the morning so i can bring presents downstairs

tiredfriday · 24/12/2022 23:41

I’m soooo tired and always feel crap on Christmas Day because I don’t get enough sleep.

90% of our wrapping is done and we are just finishing off here some last minute bits we picked up today.

This will be our last year of at least one of them believing so it’s a bit bittersweet.

Are you me from 12 months ago!?!? Xmas Grin If so, don't worry. Next year, almost 4yo will go to bed really easily (but refuse to wear the cute Christmas pjs that match her baby sister) and you just have to guard the wrapped presents from the very awake baby!
