I won’t miss the Queen’s speech. It was sooo boring, just the same old thing every year. I hope Charles jazzes it up a bit ; tells a few jokes, slags off Meghan or the government or the French. That sort of thing.

jamoncrumpets · 24/12/2022 18:35

The RF don't give two tiny figs about us. So I give zero about them.

I wish them gone in the next ten years really, but I don't think it'll happen.

AuntieMarys · 24/12/2022 18:38

Never seen.one and I'm in my 60s. They have no relevance to my life.

I don’t think the royal family are racist at all

Well of course. There's nothing remotely racist about wearing nazi uniforms to parties for a laugh or refering to Pakistani nationals as P*kis...

Itstarts · 24/12/2022 18:43

First televised speech was 1957. So there has never been a televised Kings Speech (in Britain, no idea about other countries).

Gunner1510 · 24/12/2022 18:48

Nope. Don’t know how they can sit there preaching about how hard it is while sat in the ivory tower with all their servants and money.

AmazonPrim · 24/12/2022 18:48

No

Mam?

Mam as in Jam, not Marm as in arm

This , I’m mid 50s and exactly the same

LeggyLinda · 24/12/2022 18:53

I loved watching the Queen’s speech. It was a big thing when we were growing up.

as sad as it is, I’m looking forward to the king’s speech this year. It is his first. It is monumental (for me anyway ). Also, it has been a very “interesting “ year to comment on - especially for someone who has had to curb his political views suddenly after ascending to the position.

it is likely to be boring for most, but a remarkable moment in time for those who watch

Exactly. Harry has been the only one who has actually been racist.

Panpastels · 24/12/2022 18:56

I've never watched it.

The only one? Ever heard of Prince Philip?

Or Harry’s family asking about Archie’s skin colour?

bizzywiththefizzy · 24/12/2022 17:41

No never watched it in fifty-odd years .

Same here, not even as a child, never had it on, my parents had no interest either.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 24/12/2022 19:00

No, not sad at all. The draconian tradition needs to go. No one needs the RF

Yfory · 24/12/2022 19:04

Im always baffled when people say things like "she has always been there my entire life". Care to explain op? Do you imagine the rest of us remember George VI as King? Or perhaps you imagine the rest of us live in some other country.

MichaelFabricantWig · 24/12/2022 19:05

It’ll seem different for sure but life goes on.

greenhousegal · 24/12/2022 19:06

I speak to you today as your new King. It is a very sad time for me having lost my dear Mama in September, but it is also a time of change. Change for me, the RF, and you my subjects.
We are all (lol) facing difficult times, the war in Ukraine, cost of living increases, reduction in our public services, a climate emergency, and strikes, but together we will overcome adversity, just as my Mama and Grandmama did during and after the War.
I trust you will continue to revere the monarchy, and continue to contribute to food banks, charities many of which I am patron, and other good works for those less fortunate.
I wish you well as I join my dear family for a time of celebration, good food and wine, conviviality and plenty.
May your God bless you all.
Charles R.

I have never watched the Queen's speech.

I'm in my 60s and a republican yet oddly enough I might watch the King's speech tomorrow. I'm mildly curious to see how he handles it.

It's historic even if the whole royal thing is daft.

Fraine · 24/12/2022 18:58

It's not racist to wonder what someone's child will look like. My friend and I had exactly the same conversation when she was pregnant with her mixed race twins.

derxa · 24/12/2022 19:17

I will watch Charles tomorrow

Floralnomad · 24/12/2022 18:52

Don’t think I’ve ever seen it - it’s not something we would consciously think about watching

ItsBritneyBitch45 · 24/12/2022 19:17

I literally couldn’t care less

Malariahilaria · 24/12/2022 19:31

Never watched it. Not interested in interrupting my family day to listen to rich people tell me what they pretend to think. Especially someone who pontificates about saving the planet whilst zooming about on his private jet whilst living in 35 huge energy consuming mansions. Bog orf.
