Sliders with socks

I admit, I don’t get out much.

But, how long has it been fashion for men to wear sliders with socks?

In the last 2 days, I’ve seen three men of different ages walking in sliders with socks. It’s winter and it’s raining, how are their socks not getting wet for a start?

AIBU thinking they look ridiculous and not even practical.

Just no. I judge them (morally wrong yes I know!)
I’m usually right tho. recent flight, family of fat dad, fat kids, mum with fish lips and bad extensions. All wearing sliders with socks.
they were rude and ignorant to flight crew, a blue light was always on.
i was in the queue for the loos with her, she shot me dirty looks and then when someone her type came along she was all friendly to them and rude to me. Who stands chatting in the toilet door instead of actually using the loo especially when theres a queue with small children in it

The only time this is acceptable is when you are about to step into a rowing boat.

It’s been really common for a good 2 or 3 years. Initially I was horrified (remembering British men in sock and sandals in the 70s).

Then I thought how fugly Crocs were, and how comfortable, and I got over myself. My kids’ friends of both sexes wear them.

We're a socks and sliders, and socks and crocs family. Comfy. Unapologetic.

Just a thought don't the socks make the sliders ...slippery and your feet slide out 🤔

And they would have become slimmer & more polite if wearing shoes to your taste?

Nope, I didn’t say that. Socks and slides mean a certain standard of person

Can you run in sliders? can you climb in them, walk through mud and puddles, fend off a surprise attack? nope probably not. And they look ridiculous.

In the summer my 14 year old wears them with fairly long socks and shorts.

In the winter he wears them as slippers in the house.

This was yesterday. He has HUGE feet ...

I wear sliders or crocs and socks all the time 😂 comfy, easy, practical lots of the time too. My DH does too (in all seasons!) for the same reasons.

The fashion is for women too. I’m a 63-year-old woman and I think it’s great. It’s a look I embrace for myself 😳

I don't have any sliders but I wear socks with sandals all the time now when the weather is warm enough. Perfect balance of comfort and breathability. I wear sort of practical activity sandals though, I don't know if that makes a difference. I am sure they wouldn't win many style awards on mumsnet.

I think it started in California based hip hop music videos in the 90s.

I don't wear socks and sliders because I'm risk averse (it's a slippery combo!), but I frequently wear socks and birkenstock bostons and arizonas.

Judging other people's happiness is a mean spirited and useless way to pass time.

These are mine, very comfortable, only worn with gorgeous socks and the combination isn’t slippy at all!

Not in this weather, it's too wet. But if you get the right pair of slides they are SO COMFY with socks!
