To think if you pre-book Christmas shopping...

The Christmas stuff should bloody arrive?

Not a single mince pie, Christmas pudding, cranberry sauce or turkey (in any form) in the whole shop apparently.

Surely IANBU?

Yanbu - ours comes tomorrow and I’m worried about what’s going to be in it -

Angelicapickles1 · 22/12/2022 18:19

Thats bad I did a click and collect today so picked from the store shelves and got everything. I was v impressed as some years its been awful.

I prefer click and collect at christmas as I can always then pop in the shop for anything I didn't order or was not given.

glamourousindierockandroll · 22/12/2022 18:21

I've said on previous threads that I personally think it's bonkers to rely on an online delivery for such a high stakes day, sorry. People think they reserve stuff, but they don't.

FatCatSkinnyRat · 22/12/2022 18:22

Just go to the shops then?

This whole smug "look at me I booked my slot" back in November etc is always irritating - why would people post on SM about it?

I went to the supermarket on Wednesday and, while a little busier, it was fine because they have more staff on. Then we drove off in a celebratory mood as we had everything and we were done (although getting out of the carpark was a nightmare ha ha, so maybe I deserve that!)

FatCatSkinnyRat · 22/12/2022 18:22

Also, why are people always "popping" to the shop? Can't they just go to the shop?

nancydroo · 22/12/2022 18:25

We pick up our click and collect tomorrow and I was emailed this morning about what they have out of stock. Six items not essential but had opportunity to change them. So looking good so far.

SomethingOriginal2 · 22/12/2022 18:25

YANBU and I don't understand why people bother with it when it's like this.

They make you decide what you want well in advance but make no effort to have it available so why make you say what you want so early? It makes no sense!

Hugasauras · 22/12/2022 18:26

If you do the food to order stuff where they specifically order it in for you it's fine, but you do just take your chances with the generic stuff. We used the food to order service for the turkey so wasn't worried about that, but I was a bit concerned I'd have to go on a last-minute hunt for pigs in blankets. Thankfully not!

It's not that simple for everyone though is it?

Figgypuddingpiggyfudding · 22/12/2022 18:26

I never understand the reliance on online shopping for food. Absolutely great if you aren't easily able to go out and shop but for most, shopping is so easy.

Although I should be thankful so many people do it as it makes the supermarkets less busy!😁

Hugasauras · 22/12/2022 18:26

Did you just order a generic turkey off the shelf?

QueenLagertha · 22/12/2022 18:27

I got mine this morning from Tesco. I was pleasantly surprised. Only three subs, I only needed to return one of those. So yeah that's really shit OP

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2022 18:27

It’s annoying but just go early tomorrow and get it. C’mas orders always a gamble but you’ve got plenty of time to pick up bits.

It’s a lot better than having to go and do a massive shop.

Complain and you’ll get a voucher

NatalieIsFreezing · 22/12/2022 18:28

I agree, it should be reserved within narrow degrees of certainty! I decided years ago not to trust online delivery with my Christmas food. Even if it's in stock I've had damaged packaging on poultry etc. (Ocado).

Jazamataz · 22/12/2022 18:29

Same! Just logged into my Tesco shop for Xmas eve to add something and noticed loads of ‘out of stock’ notices, including Christmas puddings, cheese/crackers, cream, snacks, pulling crackers etc, it then automatically removed them from my basket.

I’ve never done a Christmas online shop before, is this usual? When will I know what exactly is missing? I’m going to have to run to the shops aren’t I. I feel so silly I reserved this slot weeks ago and added everything straight away so I just assumed it would all be reserved.

Well that's fucking fantastic for you isn't it? It certainly doesn't seem like I'm the smug one.

Where did it say I posted on SM gloating about my delivery slot? I deliberately booked very recently for an odd time hardly anyone chooses. I didn't expect everything but I didn't expect none of the Christmas stuff either.

And, if it makes you happy, I ordered it whilst I had a very sick child, and the rest of us with flu type symptoms. Which me and DH have got worse with/caught something else. Not sure if I'd be more or less U if I infected everyone with my lergy at the shops in time for Christmas?

Do you mean a regular food delivery/click and collect? If so, YABU - these work in the same way to sending someone to the shop with a list. It's not reserved at all. That's not how it works and if you need it to be reserved, don't shop this way.

jessieminto · 22/12/2022 18:30

As someone who is disabled, I absolutely rely on the home delivery including everything I need. It's so very difficult to just 'pop' to the shops for all the missing stuff.

Judging by the amount of threads on MN every Xmas by posters lamenting how many items are missing from their delivery, I'd say no. I don't get it though – I've just been into a big Tesco near us and the shelves are heaving with all the items you've mentioned. Hopefully you can get everything else you need by popping in store.

Inkpotlover · 22/12/2022 18:32

Argh, typed no when I meant YES, it is usual.

Oh, I think online delivery is fantastic.

Supermarket shopping is the most boring, time wasting activity known to man, I think..

Hugasauras · 22/12/2022 18:32

Yeah generic stuff is never reserved. The only stuff that is guaranteed is the festive food to order, where you order specific items like the turkey etc and can't cancel past a certain date. Those are ordered just for you. The rest is just off the shelves like a standard shop.

KilmordenCastle · 22/12/2022 18:33

Completely agree. Obviously I know that some people don't have a choice but if you do then surely going to the supermarket yourself is the safest option.

We buy everything as far in advance as possible so we've had stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, Xmas pudding, booze etc in the cupboard and a turkey in the freezer for weeks. The only things left to buy this week are short dated stuff like veg, bread and cream. No chance I would trust them to an online delivery.

@AllThingsServeTheBeam, I suspect @FatCatSkinnyRat got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning! Grin

vipersnest1 · 22/12/2022 18:36

@FavouritePi, YANBU for being fed up about it.
Can someone go for you?
I hope you fond a solution (and feel better soon)!
