The Christmas stuff should bloody arrive?

Not a single mince pie, Christmas pudding, cranberry sauce or turkey (in any form) in the whole shop apparently.

Surely IANBU?

Any Aldi click and collect reports? My big shop pickup is tomorrow evening after work and I have a very small window- working Sat morning and 30 people coming for a ‘village drink and a chilli pot’ at 4pm.

‘popping out to shops’ is not an option 🥴

This thread has given me the FEAR

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 22/12/2022 22:27

I usually do click and collect, I had to book a delivery slot instead😱then to add insult to injury I couldn't order any evaporated milk!

600 thousand free range turkeys have been culled due to avian flu, supermarkets were told they could buy the birds earlier and freeze them on the condition customers were informed that the birds ( whether it be chicken, turkey etc) were pre frozen.
People who usually buy free range will now be looking at other options.
it may seem in many areas there are dozens of turkeys for sale it may mean the Supermarket/ supplier was better prepared with their pre- orders.

OH was in Asda on Tuesday picked up a turkey, it was frozen solid underneath. The ones further back even more frozen. No signage to say do not refreeze at all. BUT he is sure they were defrosting frozen ones. Luckily we didn't need one.

I had a friend who spent five days in hospital years ago turkey poisoning

Ocado doesn't have shops so hopefully everything will be there... I'm completely reliant on my delivery tomorrow as I've got flu/lurgy

My Ocado shop came today - everything as ordered and no substitutions at all so I was happy with that. Hopefully yours will all be ok too.

I've only a small Waitrose delivery coming tomorrow with a combination of things for me and things for mum. We regularly do one delivery between us. It's some every day stuff like loo roll and rich tea biscuits but also some things that I can't get in Asda which is my nearest supermarket. I've got the essentials already as they are things I normally have in but the delivery is the extra things that would be nice. Chocolates, crisps, treats etc have been bought gradually since September when there's been offers.I love building up a stash of treats although this year it's half the size.

I hope everyone manages to get what they need 🎄

Freezing/refreezing is usually a food quality issue rather than a food safety issue providing the food has not gone above fridge temperature.

I have an Ocado order arriving at 830am and have just checked the receipt on line, all Christmas things are there, just missing a couple of tiny unimportant items. I’ve shopped with Ocado since they first started about 15 years ago and they very very rarely substitute or omit anything.

farawayplaces · 23/12/2022 06:47

I have one sub, Ocado broccoli has been replaced with m&s broccoli. I can certainly live with that!

KatherineJaneway · 23/12/2022 06:53

Retailers run down stocks much quicker than they used to.

My shop arrives this morning, only the eggs are missing and I'll pop to the local shop for those later. We usually do an early Christmas Eve run to the shops for last minute items like fresh bread and any missing items.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 23/12/2022 06:55

Ocado is the best for sending you what you’ve actually ordered. The rest are just pot luck.

CoffeeBoy · 23/12/2022 06:59

I’m doing click and collect this afternoon as I figure if stuff is missing I’m in town near 5 different supermarkets and can brave them in the h7nt for missing stuff which should still be quicker than a full shop.

mrssunshinexxx · 23/12/2022 06:59

Oh god I pick my click and collect up tonight and I'm nervous everything will be substituted

Tumbleweed101 · 23/12/2022 07:01

You reserve the slot for delivery not the food. I only put a couple of items on to reserve then do the actual shop a day or two before delivery is due as you get a better idea what is in stock. I also book it for a few days before so things should have viable dates for Xmas but I have time to go to shop for anything missing.

I live rurally so do online shopping most of the time, long before covid. It helps keep the bulk of the basics topped up so that when I do go into town I can enjoy browsing for something 'different'.

I never understand the reliance on online shopping for food. Absolutely great if you aren't easily able to go out and shop but for most, shopping is so easy.

Although I should be thankful so many people do it as it makes the supermarkets less busy!😁

Not all of us drive,, not that easy to carry bags of shopping home.
I've been getting Christmas shop delivered for nearly 20 years and not been a problem. Mines coming tomorrow at 7 so I can get the odd item if it's missing

Purplelion · 23/12/2022 07:06

I think YABU. The lack of substitution for a turkey product could be down to bird flu? It’s certainly affected poultry supplies at work.
Also, apart from specific items (Like turkeys) shops simply didn’t have the room to keep shopping reserved, it is picked the night before it’s due to be delivered or the day of if it’s a later delivery slot.

namechangeymcchange · 23/12/2022 07:19

I'm going to have to wait to see what they deign to deliver tonight and try to go tomorrow for what they don't.

Half my order was showing out of stock yesterday.

I'm disabled. I have no help on Christmas Eve and I'm dreading the thought of having to do it. I book delivery every week for a reason.

JorisBonson · 23/12/2022 07:41

Asda on its way with some shocking subs - stock instead of gravy, NO TWIGLETS, no veggie stuff for DH. Now I have to go to an actual shop!

Ciri · 23/12/2022 07:54

There were hundreds of fresh turkeys in our local Tesco yesterday afternoon.

CoffeeBoy · 23/12/2022 08:01

Had my click and collect email. No chicken. Gluten free pastry has been swapped for chocolate mousse
sweet potato mash swapped for mash potatoes
bread sauce swapped for white sauce

Womanofthe80s · 23/12/2022 08:14

Online ordering is great if you are disabled, elderly, do not have transport etc. My son got a job in online shopping over covid. If you want your Christmas food picked by a disinterested 17 year old then fine. It's not a magic ticket to pre ordered special food. It's someone with a trolley, pushing it around a supermarket instead of you.

Plumbear2 · 23/12/2022 08:14

I don't understand why people order online but a few days before so they can go to the shops if something doesn't arrive with the order. Just go to the shop in the first place. My main shop takes 40 min max in shop. You can waste that time at home waiting for delivery and then more time going to the shop anyway 😆 makes zero sense

Because I'm disabled and in the hope that it all comes.

Lidl bought all the twiglets. Foyer area full of them yesterday

I absolutely hate having deliveries at any time of the year, there is literally always something missing/out of stock! I can't imagine how bad it must be at this time of year. I don't enjoy the supermarkets at Christmas but I would rather tolerate that for an hour or so than get a delivery with things missing and have to go and hunt for them anyway.
