Is this a concussion?

took a a tumble today off my horse and gave my head a fairly decent knock off the ground. Luckily I was wearing my helmet and it wasn’t too bad although it sounded worse- I heard my head thud off the ground and it was very sore. I’m fine and I don’t have any concerning signs for a head injury- I haven’t been sick, I wasn’t knocked out, I’ve just got a very sore head which is to be expected obviously!

But I’m unsure if it’s a concussion or not. Is there a way to tell if it is? I know the signs to look out for that suggest a more serious head injury, or at least warrant a trip to a&e to get checked, but not every head bump is a concussion- is there a feature that makes it a concussion?

I suppose it doesn’t really matter because there’s no treatment really. I just wasn’t sure if this was a concussion or not.

My dc had concussion and described it as room spin and it lasted for days. Drowsiness is also a symptom. Keep an eye on yourself as it can be very serious. We were told that they were not to do any physical sport for 6 weeks after.

I should have added- I’ve had concussion (at least 3 that i know about) and they were diagnosed by HCPs, but other than an excruciating head and feeling a bit shit, I didn’t have any other symptoms, but even without a concussion I would expect to have a sore head so I suppose that’s where my confusion is from!

Concussion is your brain banging /moving side to side in your skull.
So it’s feeling unwell from a minor head injury but not having any significant injury.
eg mild headache/ nausea/ feeling not quite well due to a head injury

If someone had the same injury but felt totally well after, it wouldn’t be concussion iyswim
