To miss work work with a presumed cold?

Hi all. Posted here with another concern about work so I decided to ask your opinions on this as most people are so helpful. So it’s my last day of work tomorrow for the holidays (teacher) I’m sick but with two negative COVID tests. I still have an appetite though and no fever. So I’m thinking a cold. I felt nauseous yesterday and was awake all night coughing. Nearly vomited from the cough but didn’t. Had blocked nose and constantly runny nose today. Coughing in bouts. Gone through caseloads of tissues with runny nose and sneezing. Lots of staff are sick but going to work once they have a negative COVID test. However I don’t want to spread anything. It’s our last day but the only really important thing happening is Kris Kindle! I could email the person organising and say I’ll bring it in in the New Year. They have spare gifts for such situations too. I feel bad missing the last day too though. Would you go in or stay off tomorrow? I was off today . Basically AIBU to miss the last day of term when sick but still able to function? Thank you.

I posted this in chat too but can’t figure out how to delete that one and keep this one! Sorry!

I would go if u can manage to wear a mask.and distance yourself from others. If you are going to be coughing abd spluttering all over people then it's a no. I'm.a teacher too. The dilemma re people covering for absence weighs heavily.

You havent said how you feel. Can you do your job confortably enough withoit being a martyr? Go in. If you're unwell, stay off!

I’d push through for the last day, if you feel able. At this point in term everyone feels rotten, but you are so close to being able to lie in bed and relax I would try make it through to the holidays.

Don’t feel great but I’ve no temp. So I feel guilty if that makes sense . But I do have a lot of respiratory symptoms that have me feeling sub par!

Thank you for being considerate and not wanting to send the kids home with fresh new germs just in time for Christmas! In your shoes I’d stay at home with profuse apologies to colleagues. If you’re contagious, it’s just the perfect timing re incubation periods to make the holidays a bit crap for everyone else.

I’ve had what sounds like a similar nasty bug this week (negative Covid tests and all) and have struggled with normal day-to-day things and work, and I’m not even a teacher. Can’t imagine going in to a school in this state!

Stay off and don't spread your germs.

Covid can take a few days of symptoms before a positive test. Either way it would be better not to spread your germs to others and a day off will do you good. Stay off.
