Card factory cards

Given up with their cards, 90% are perfectly nice designs and you think ‘perfect’ then open it up to seven pages of weird gushing OTT poetry and stuff you would NEVER say or think. Even the ones without the extra pages seem to have weird messages in them. WHY do they do this?

Oh god I agree. Although I don't think it's just card factory. Those awful gushy poetry filled cards should be banned 🤣🤣

LubaLuca · 20/12/2022 19:25

We always pick the one with most words inside for my mum, because she loves to carefully read them. She gets choked up as if we penned them ourselves! I imagine she's not the only one who likes them.

EnolaJ · 20/12/2022 19:30

I think lots of people really enjoy the words so it conveys how they are feeling!

I've picked up a few cards from there though that don't have the words in, so I think there is a balance, I find them great value and their gift bags are fab!!

HilaryBriss · 20/12/2022 19:46

My MiL loved them (before she passed away), some of the ones she used to send us were more like a book than a card, filled with so many pages!

CactusFlowers · 20/12/2022 20:23

They are great for children's parties though - 10 card for a pound!

bigbluebus · 20/12/2022 20:32

People obviously like them (although that doesn't include me). We've got an independent card shop in town and people are always recommending it on local Facebook. I went in one day and couldn't find a single card I would consider buying - they all had gushing/ soppy verse in.

Oh! Sweet!

Only get the 10 for £1 for kids parties. The other cards are….a bit wordy.

MaggieFS · 20/12/2022 20:37

I've never had a problem finding non-wordy ones (but I do know they stock plenty that are very 'special') and they are a bargain compared to other shops. I'm a fan!

Needmorelego · 20/12/2022 21:05

This year I did get some really cute Christmas cards there. They were in a teeny tiny section where they aren't for a specific person. They were a rare Card Factory find. The rest of their cards are a bit OTT.

Oysterbabe · 20/12/2022 21:08

My dad always gets me these and they do make me laugh.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 20/12/2022 21:12

DH family are into 'wordy' cards. My family are not. I find I can get both kinds at Card Factory, and at prices much cheaper than other card shops, newsagents or supermarkets. So I'm happy.

Oysterbabe · 20/12/2022 21:12

My dad got me this one for my birthday this week. It's hilarious because he is not a sentimental sort AT ALL, and definitely not religious. I'm sure he didn't even read it.

All card shops have this. I tend to get cards from supermarkets as they're less wordy, and not much more expensive than card factory.

LubaLuca · 20/12/2022 21:15

I think even my mum would be a bit 🤨 if I gave her a 'God sent an angel...' one 😀

PurpleWitch · 20/12/2022 21:27

Card factory also do an excellent line in very rude cards. I tend to stick to those TBH.

Ohyoudodoyou · 20/12/2022 21:40

Oh Christ. I bought dozens of cards there last week, all to different people. I scribbled in them, posted them and didn't think to see what the two pages of inserted sheets said. Feel a bit of a melt now!

Stopthebusplease · 20/12/2022 21:43

My BIL sent us a Christmas card a few days ago, inside he wrote 'Sorry, I never read this before I bought it', then crossed out some of the words and replaced them with things like 'WTF', and 'do people really say this crap?' Had us in hysterics!

Brunonono · 20/12/2022 21:46

I have an irrationally strong dislike for cards with poems in but there must be a market as my MIL loves a card with a "verse"!

good96 · 20/12/2022 21:47

It wasn’t just me that thought that way then! I always use Card Factory as it’s cheaper than Clintons/Paperchase/ Supermarkets but I found this year when I went in to buy xmas cards, they were poor quality and not much variety. That was mid November though as wanted to get them written and sent before the RM strikes kicked in.

Wine4whine · 20/12/2022 21:52

I hate wordy cards however my DP and family love them. Every Christmas I can be seen picking cards up and muttering "eurgh. No I just can't."

ShakeYourFeathers · 20/12/2022 22:42

This isn't my pet hate for Christmas but it is for Mother's Day. Neither me or my DM are into soppy cards. All I want is a card with a nice bunch of flowers on it with Happy Mother's Day on it. Not some rambling poem
