So gutted by his untimely death- 63 is no age and the good ones always die young. He was a proper legend and such a voice for social justice through all his music. What a sad day for UK music 😢

Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think ❤️

It's very sad news indeed. I have been playing both The Specials and The Colourfield today and can't quite believe it still.

Fragmentsof2022 · 20/12/2022 13:46

@middleager yes me too - playing Specials now! He was a genius- am very sad 😞

RIP Terry. Your songs were the soundtrack to my youth x

ShowerOfShite · 20/12/2022 13:54

Ska day here too, gutted to hear the news.
RIP Terry, soundtrack to my youth.

Fragmentsof2022 · 20/12/2022 13:54

@Laiste and mine. Saw the Specials pre covid in 2019 and they were so fantastic! Was a bucket list moment for me!

So shocked and saddened by the news of Terry's death.

RIP Terry 💔

NotSorry · 20/12/2022 14:16

He was a genius and very modest (if you read his interviews) really sad news

Bananadramallamas · 20/12/2022 14:18

A really good guy. What a shame. Loved the Specials in my youth.

Isseywith3witchycats · 20/12/2022 14:18

Very sad the specials and two tone set my music tastes for the era of the late seventies early eighties i was lucky enough to see them live a few years ago they were brilliant and exactly like they were originally

Batiqueattic · 20/12/2022 14:21

Bless his heart, Terry Hall was a talented, brave, funny & kind man. Brilliant songs, just brilliant.

Derrymum123 · 20/12/2022 14:24

Teenage years idol. Such a kind and gentle man in real life. A genius songwriter and musician. Far too young at 63. Rest in peace Terry.

Samcro · 20/12/2022 14:55

I am so sad about this. I went to see the Specials the weekend my mum died. my db went the next night. it was a blinding light in such a bad time.
ghost town summed up how it was back then locally.
could just keep on, brilliant music,

Fragmentsof2022 · 20/12/2022 15:02

It’s hit me hard for some reason- I think because it feels like he was too young- but they always burn the brightest eh 💛

RIP Terry.

He was such a unique person with such a gift. Playing "Our Lips Are Sealed" by Funboy Three a lot today.

Dartmoorcheffy · 20/12/2022 15:07

So sad. Poor little rich girl and Do Nothing , my two favourites. As a teenager through the 80s, I loved this band.

ChristmasSparkleTastic · 21/12/2022 08:12

How did he die?

CheshireSplat · 21/12/2022 08:30

I'm a 90s indie kid so was introduced to Terry Hall through Home. I literally couldn't breathe through a performance on Jools Holland., I thought he was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen. I was blasting out Forever J on repeat driving through the Peak District just the other week. That led to discovering The Specials, Fun Boy Three, The Colourfield. So not contemporaneous but still the sound track to my formative years.

I'd always hoped for an autobiography but will relisten to the Richard Herring interview again.

To be honest, I'm amazed he lived so long, given his difficult life.

I am very sad and don't have many people to share this with, so thanks for starting the thread.

HamzasHairnet · 21/12/2022 08:35

Ghost Town was the first single I ever bought. I used to love watching Terry on TOTP as there would always be a point during the performance where he'd give a big smile to the camera and I remember waiting for it every time. R.I.P Terry ❤️
