8 week old not drinking as much at night?

Hi all,

Posting here for traffic as it's late ..

8 week old DD is drinking less formula at night, she wakes up every 3-4hours and drinks an oz and then goes back to sleep, is this normal?

Her feeding is unpredictable during the day but she drinks between 3-5oz and she has gained weight since birth - born 6.5 and is now 9.6lbs so not worried in that regard but worried she's not eating enough at night.

Thank you

Neither of mine had any milk overnight from
8 weeks. As a guide they need roughly 2.5oz of formula per pound of body weight in a 24 hour period- if they’re having this during the day then they won’t necessarily need more at night.

Is baby having plenty of wet and dirty nappies? Is baby gaining weight? If both are yes, then she's drinking enough (but call your HV if you're concerned). If not, seek medical help.

Thank you both, yeah she has a wet nappy everytime and has a dirty one at least once a day so I'll follow her lead with her eating - I thought she might be getting ready to sleep through with not drinking a lot at night but that might be wishful thinking Grin

At 6 weeks onwards mine had a dream feed at 10pm then nothing until 7am. So I think you're on the way to them sleeping through. I think formula keeps them full for longer.

8 weeks would be very early to sleep through I'm afraid. But every 3-4 hours is very manageable I think. Though I might not be a good person to say this as both of mine woke up a lot, so you're likely to have it easier than me thankfully.
