hip is agony!

My hip is excruciating. It’s mainly been on the right and it hurts to walk and move my leg at all. My lower back is also aching but not as much as my hip. Painkillers aren’t touching it and neither is heat/hot compresses.

ive been sleeping badly recently. Mainly night terrors and sleep paralysis (for a whole different thread!) but I think I’ve been sleeping in weird positions because of how awful the nightmares have been. I’ve woken up a few times lying on my sides, and also lying with my legs folded over and I think that’s caused the pain as that started 2 weeks ago and that’s when the pain started too.

does anyone have any advice for how to stop the pain or how to relieve it? I’ve never had hip pain before so not sure if there’s anything specific that is best for it

It sounds like you are having a really bad time!

When my hips really hurt I find taking a large dose over a couple of months of Vitamin D helps a lot. It sounds like your night terrors are causing you to sleep in unusual positions so could you try to sleep with a pillow between your knees or have a large pregnancy pillow to cuddle up to (and throw a leg over)?

How is your mattress? Can you flip it?
Try taking ibuprofen if you can, to reduce inflammation. Try to sleep with a pillow or folded blanket between your knees/thighs to keep your hips aligned of you do get twisted. Some gentle stretching and walking if you're able could help.

If your sleep is unusually bad and you're in pain you should speak to your GP
