Can you get pregnant with one blocked tube

toastonjam · 19/12/2022 21:20

I have one blocked tube with adhesions and one healthy, clear tube.

My ovaries were also stuck to my uterus with adhesions but they have been surgically 'unstuck'

Am I still able to get pregnant naturally? My surgeon seems optimistic but I'm terrified. I seem to be having endless problems 😭

Surgeon doesn't know why I had adhesions as it wasn't endometriosis.

Please can someone help me I'm really worried

You can get pregnant with one tube working well. The 'good' tube can also, as it were, suction an egg in, which has been released from the ovary which lies on the opposite side of the uterus.

DuchessofSandwich · 19/12/2022 21:23

My colleague had a child naturally after having one ovary removed. I don't know why it was removed or any medical details apart from this.

Aquasulis · 19/12/2022 21:24

Yes. I had one tube removed and one with 80-90% scarring. Was told to be very careful and have an immediately scan due to high scarring in left tube. Got pregnant within 2 weeks first time trying and 4 weeks second time. Body seems to know and I only ovulate on that side. The specialist I saw said you don’t ovulate 50% less due to one tube. Good luck!

HamIsMyCake · 19/12/2022 21:25

Yes, I got pregnant very quickly

CoffeeeLove · 19/12/2022 21:25

I fell pregnant with 1 tube after an ectopic pregnancy. It’s definitely possible!

HelloViroids · 19/12/2022 21:25

I had one tube blocked due to endometriosis and uterus stuck to my bowel - was told natural pregnancy very unlikely for me (personally)… DS is now 2.5 🥰

Oliveandbay · 19/12/2022 21:26

Yes, I did, first time of trying.

Diverseopinions · 19/12/2022 21:28

I think it's the case that surgeons work out these likelihoods statistically and based on all their experience and the experience of colleagues, so if your surgeon is optimistic, be assured that this won't be a random opinion.

Ask him for information, dear, about the tube that is blocked. Make sure he will be doing checks, when you try to conceive, to be sure the egg won't get stuck in the blocked tube - as that can be dangerous.

Just trying to be helpful. I got pregnant naturally after having an ectopic pregnancy and losing one tube and it was the ovary on the other side to the good tube which had released the egg.

euff · 19/12/2022 21:29

I had one tube removed nov 2011 (ectopic rupture) and gave birth to DS Dec 2012. I'm not aware of any underlying issues though. Wish you all the best.

Sciurus83 · 19/12/2022 21:29

Yes, happened to my friend recently

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 21:32

Yes I have a blocked tube (ectopic pregnancy) and have since had two kids. Good luck op x

MintJulia · 19/12/2022 21:35

Yes.

I only have one tube and half an ovary, and I still managed it. Bit of a shock at the time but definitely possible.😀

FLOWER1982 · 19/12/2022 21:35

Yes definitely. I had a ruptured ectopic. Had my tube removed. Conceived naturally twice after.

toastonjam · 19/12/2022 21:40

Omg that's shut me up 😱 wow

I assumed you wouldn't be able to get pregnant without having the blocked tube removed too! I still have the blocked tube.

I'm also really confused as to why my tube is blocked :( I'm worrying that I've had an untreated infection somehow but my sti checks are clear!

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 19/12/2022 21:41

Yep, I did. It ended up being ectopic but that's another story and not related. It's definitely possible. Good luck x

Nottodaty · 19/12/2022 21:42

Yes - first one was a surprise pregnancy. One tube is blocked due to damage.

Second pregnancy took a bit longer, not sure if this was due to further scar tissue & two lots of endometriosis treatment in between pregnancies. But I did get pregnant again :)

Good luck x

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 19/12/2022 21:42

Sorry, I did have my blocked tube removed though first.

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 21:42

If that was the case they would have told you, OP. I know it's really difficult to come to terms with but remember the odds are still in your favour.

They never found why mine was blocked either, it's just one of those things. They do say a lot are caused by historic chlamydia infections, who knows

PurpleishDahlia · 19/12/2022 21:44

Not a doctor but I can share my personal experience. After trying for 3 years, HSG showed one completely blocked tube and one full of adhesions, with the tiniest of passages. My doctor suggested IVF but I got pregnant naturally 6 months later. No idea how it happened. I am now expecting my 2nd one. So if you have a working tube keep your hopes up! 💐

Nottodaty · 19/12/2022 21:44

Mine still there (some 26 years later) they think the scaring for mine was due to pelvic infection :(

leccybill · 19/12/2022 21:45

Yes you can, my doctor told me. But we tried for another 5 years and it didn't happen so we gave up.

golfwidow88 · 19/12/2022 21:47

I fell pregnant with one tube after an ectopic, and I was told my the surgeon that my remaining tube was clubbed at the end so I'd never fall pregnant naturally! Three months later... yup!

Also my tubeless side was the side that released the egg! So it just got to the remaining fallopian tube somehow. Mental!

toastonjam · 19/12/2022 21:48

@Whatafielddayfortheheat

If I had historic chlamydia would that have shown on my sti checks though? X

OP posts:
toastonjam · 19/12/2022 21:49

@Nottodaty

My surgeons said it could be that too but we will never know what the infection was - could have been something minor apparently! It just seems really extreme to me as I don't recall anything :(

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 19/12/2022 21:53

@toastonjam only if you were tested whilst you had the infection. I also have never tested positive for chlamydia but I suppose it's possible I had it. Ultimately try not to dwell on it, I got so stressed about it but my midwife said, if the infection is gone it won't be causing any more damage so try to put it out of your mind x
