Can you get pregnant with one blocked tube

96 replies

toastonjam · 19/12/2022 21:20

I have one blocked tube with adhesions and one healthy, clear tube.

My ovaries were also stuck to my uterus with adhesions but they have been surgically 'unstuck'

Am I still able to get pregnant naturally? My surgeon seems optimistic but I'm terrified. I seem to be having endless problems 😭

Surgeon doesn't know why I had adhesions as it wasn't endometriosis.

Please can someone help me I'm really worried

P.S that meant to say one TUBE was all it took.

toastonjam · 20/12/2022 10:27

@OlympicProcrastinator

Thank you - if I do get pregnant I presume I'll need to tell my gp asap so they can book in an early scan? X

OlympicProcrastinator · 20/12/2022 10:32

toastonjam Yes absolutely. It’s life threatening and to put it blunty, cheaper for the NHS to deal with it early with drugs than removing the tube and the pregnancy. Your GP will refer you for early scan.

GodspeedJune · 20/12/2022 10:33

Did the surgeon have a special interest in endometriosis? Some forms of endo can be missed or not diagnosed by general gynaes.

The adhesions and blocked tube can definitely be signs of endometriosis.

Both of my tubes are blocked due to a failure of the NHS to diagnose or treat my endometriosis for 15 years. I’ve never had an STI.

toastonjam · 20/12/2022 10:38

@GodspeedJune

Yes I researched all of his qualifications r before I went ahead. I chose the top surgeon at the practice too because I suspected the endo would be complex.

All he did say was that I could have had endo in the past which has caused the damage but at present I don't have endo. This also correlates with my pain - I used to have really bad period pain but I haven't for a couple of years now. X

Hi OP, I had a blocked tube diagnosed during our IVF journey. No reason for it to be blocked, no infections nothing.

I had to go down the IVF route to have my DD but that was only half the reason why, my ovary on the unblocked side had an extremely low response!

I didn’t have to get mine out before I did IVF/got pregnant but they did allow me to get both tubes out during my c section as they wanted to get the blocked one out whilst I was already in surgery!

only time will tell, sending good vibes for you though x

toastonjam · 20/12/2022 10:56

@Itstime1

Thank you so much.
Im racked with guilt thinking I've had an infection and this is my fault so it is comforting to hear you haven't had an infection to cause yours either.
Im pleased you got your dd x

My mum had 1 tube and 1 ovary and managed to get pregnant with me! It was quite badly damaged by an infection too! But this was back in the mid 50's when surgical techniques were not as good as today. I was born mid 70,s she was told she'd never have children.

toastonjam · 20/12/2022 12:08

@onmywayamarillo

Thank you. All of these success stories are comforting me so so much x

Are there any more success stories out there? Shamelessly bumping for more comfort hopefully 😬

Only one tube here / ovary here. No issue having ds.

Namechange567775 · 20/12/2022 21:08

Just for balance - I have one working tube and had to have IVF to conceive. Not sure if that was the only problem as it took a lot of rounds and lots of trial and error but it certainly didn’t help.

NoNameIdeas · 20/12/2022 21:15

You definitely can! I know someone who has 4 children, all conceived naturally...she was born with only one ovary and Fallopian tube! She only found out when she went to be sterilised that she only had 1.

toastonjam · 20/12/2022 22:36

Thanks again!!

Does it matter that I still have the blocked tube too? I'm worried that will be detrimental somehow

Unsure21 · 14/08/2023 21:44

I know this Is an old thread everyone! :)

@toastonjam hang on in there - I know just how all consuming and tough this is. Have you gone done the assisted conception route yet?

toastonjam · 15/08/2023 09:41

@Namechange567775

Not yet no. I don't know if I am being too hasty or not - this month will be month 8 of ttc post surgery (we had a break last month as I just couldn't face another negative).

My friend recently had a baby with one tube, she'd lost her other tube to an ectopic. Charlotte Crosby is another one to have recently had a baby with one tube, she also had hers removed due to an ectopic pregnancy.

toastonjam · 15/08/2023 10:04

@Mamai90

I know people can get pregnant when they physically only have one tube. It's the fact that I've still got the blocked one and I worry it's detrimental to the other one in some way if that makes sense! My doctor has said it won't but i Just feel like this is never going to happen 😞

OP posts:
OlympicProcrastinator · 15/08/2023 10:19

Can I suggest conceive plus if you haven’t tried it already? I got pregnant first time using after months of ttc. I think when you are trying so hard the ‘conditions’ for sperm to travel and survive are sometimes not right due to stress if you know what I mean.

toastonjam · 15/08/2023 11:48

@OlympicProcrastinator

We've tried pre-seed (which my partner had a reaction to 😭) is conceive plus much different?

My stress levels are extremely high (for other reasons as well as ttc) but obviously each month I feel worse and worse! It's a vicious circle. I THINK I've delayed my ovulation for the last couple of months because of stress too as my period has been delayed by a few days.

Thank you 🙏

It’s the same type of product but different ingredients that are hypoallergenic so hopefully won’t cause a reaction. I conceived 2 children with one tube as have lots of women. You sound super stressed so it’s far more likely to be linked to that than your tubes. You are doing the right thing taking a break and getting yourself in a better mental state 💐

Hi - have a similar situation and have been advised that yes, a hydrosalpinx can impact the implantation. Even if the healthy tube is where the egg travels, the liquid in the blocked one can damage the egg and prevent it from implanting or damage it after that (but the specialist did say if we got pregnant, not to worry about it because it is possible). We're making a decision as to whether to have the tube removed and have been trying for a similar amount of time as you.
