Migrant housing & heating

My relative is over here as an asylum seeker and currently living in a shared house. I checked in when the cold snap started to see if he needed help with winter clothing. He told me that in his house the heating is on all day long. Sometimes it gets too hot so he has to switch the radiators off! In the summer he had the AC on all day in his hotel room while we were all sweltering in the heatwave. He also told me that he hasn’t yet met any off the other residents in the house because they are all off to work in the morning. They are working illegally as they aren’t supposed to.
Now before someone says that I want migrants to freeze to death, I don’t! Everyone should have heating but it seems a bit unfair that this is going on whilst other people who actually have people living in the house can’t heat their homes and are also paying tax on the income they earn. It’s messed up!

You're jealous of an asylum seeker?

SchoolQuestionnaire · 19/12/2022 11:00

Sounds legit.

JoyBeorge · 19/12/2022 11:01

Has it occurred to you it might just be that house and not a migrant thing in general?

Pothoswithasparkle · 19/12/2022 11:01

Have the school holidays started yet?

Threadkillacilla · 19/12/2022 11:03

Asking for a friend yeh?

Goinggoinggone1 · 19/12/2022 11:04

sniff yep smells like BS.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/12/2022 11:05

I'd imagine letting a shared house, funded directly from the state, get so damp and cold that it falls into ruin, and it's residents get ill/die, would be an awful outcome.

Skinnermarink · 19/12/2022 11:06

Oh right yeah sure. Where’s he over from? The bridge?

Jadeandpurple · 19/12/2022 11:07

You don’t believe it but do you really think there are checks on how often they use their heating? No. So they have it on all day. You don’t think people work illegally either? Ok sure.

Shurrup tit.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/12/2022 11:09

But once they are processed and get residency they end up in the same shit as the rest of us. Unlimited heating etc will all stop

JusteanBiscuits · 19/12/2022 11:09

Is there an emoji for goady twat?

dollymixtured · 19/12/2022 11:10

1/10

Whatever the OPs motives what they say isn't incorrect

All utilities in NASS accommodation are provided by the government.

tulips27 · 19/12/2022 11:11

It sounds like something you've written just to rile people up over asylum seekers tbh. The only way it could have been better for that purpose would have been to include something about homeless ex-forces people or pensioners.

TinFoilHatty · 19/12/2022 11:11

yeah no, we don't like confected frothers. Off you pop.

Well yes. Who else should provide it?

I mean like of course if they are not allowed to work...

Seasonofthewitch83 · 19/12/2022 11:14

Ah yes, thats why I cant afford to have my heating on, its because checks notes a shared house has the heating on all day.

That must be costing the taxpayer BILLIONS!

Perhaps Megan Markle turned the heating on.

crackofdoom · 19/12/2022 11:15

Personally, I'm glad that a bunch of people, most of whom I imagine come from countries much hotter than here, many having experienced war, oppression, torture, dislocation from their friends and families and other trauma, currently battling poverty, discrimination, loneliness and fear of being deported at any moment, don't at least have to be cold.

TinFoilHatty · 19/12/2022 11:15

OP take in your relative, I am shaking and crying because you haven't done so.

darisdet · 19/12/2022 11:16
Hmm

I didn't make a value judgement. I just said utilities in NASS accommodation are provided by the government.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 19/12/2022 11:19

Thank you, all the contributors from the migration lobby.

Grumpybutfunny · 19/12/2022 11:19

At least they are going out to work some born in this country could learn from that! Our fire has been lit when we have been in for the last 2/3 weeks, heating turned on remotely before leaving work so we don't come back to a cold house 🤷‍♀️ can't say we use aircon as we don't it's never warm enough!

I'm just glad people who have experienced unimaginable pain are comfortable and able to settle in by getting work etc.
