when he brought home Spongebob Squarepants joke books

having to explain crap jokes is not my idea of reading with a child ... it's more like a circle of hell

I don't want to do it

he has had it for 2 weeks now because we haven't done it

Get him to read it to DD. I have found this kills two Bedtime Reading birds with one vaguely educational stone.

Twiglett · 02/02/2008 16:53

What's Spongebob's favourite kind of knot?
The square knot

YANBU - I would refuse too it's hardly The Water Babies is it?

dividedselfridgesxmaswindow · 02/02/2008 16:56

I lied last Monday - first time ever - and for the first time ever the teacher wrote "H was able to discuss the story she had read with me" since she wouldn' have hd the faintest idea what the story was I think we were being outed.

Wisteria · 02/02/2008 16:59

maybe your dd is just a natural when it comes to the blag

dividedselfridgesxmaswindow · 02/02/2008 17:03

that should say 'discuss, with me, the story' otherwise it makes no sense does it?does it now?

clutteredup · 02/02/2008 17:06

But its got to be better than Biff and Chip........isn't it?

LIZS · 02/02/2008 17:15

Wisteria have you read the Water Babies recently - dd and I have been doing so on and off for months (her choice btw), dry doesnlt come into it . Give me Spongebob ! Pretend to have read it , noone will know !

colditz · 02/02/2008 18:39

"Ds1 was very tired tonight, so we didn't do his reading"

(Mummy got engrossed on the playstation with ds1 and decided that reading a very dull book 1/2 an hour after he should have been in bed was Not The Way Forward)

Threadworm · 02/02/2008 18:49

Just write in his reading record book that it's a peice of crap that you and your son don't want to read. Blimey! Sponge Bob Square Pants.

MicrowaveOnly · 02/02/2008 18:50

lol last 2 posts!

and does anyone here know how on earth Biff can be a girls name????

hunkermunker · 02/02/2008 18:52

Is this a book he chose to bring home, or one that was given by the teacher?

Can you accidentally set fire to it to save any other parent this torment?

Twiglett · 02/02/2008 19:08

I am, probably unfortunately, rather too honest for this parenting lark

I wrote something along the lines of "neither DS nor I can stand to read this book. The jokes are just unfunny. We read Tintin instead"

(this is the teacher who complained that DS was too sarcastic too ... ooops)
