Partner searching bin bags

My bf is really into recycling and I make an effort to recycle too. We moved in together 5 years ago and a few times I found him opening and searching through bin bags for things to be recycled and thought he was just being really environmentally aware.
Over the last few weeks I had a clear out of tons of old things and wrapped them up well in bin bags. I made sure to wrap them tightly because there was some expired medicine in there and we have a dog and a toddler.
Last weekend I emptied the recycling and found 5 small cardboard boxes from expired paracetamol packets in the recycling so he must have opened the bag and picked out the 5 boxes from the stuff I threw away.
Today I found him searching through the bathroom bin for things to recycle. There is a bin strike at the moment and nowhere to put the rubbish or I would have emptied the bin once it was half full. After living with a woman for 5 years is it unreasonable to expect him to understand that there might be wrapped up sanitary towels or tampons in the bathroom bin that shouldn't be picked through? Isn't searching for used tampon applicators in a bin a bit extreme?

Could it be something like OCD?

dolor · 17/12/2022 20:54

Uhhh that's reaaaally fucking weird for him to be doing that.

panko · 17/12/2022 20:55

Ewww

MolesOnPoles · 17/12/2022 20:56

That would drive me nuts.

TheChosenTwo · 17/12/2022 20:59

Years ago my sister lived in a flat share with a bloke who had grown up in Germany and he was like this about recycling. Apparently
where he lived (army camp) they used to be fined for anything in the bin that could be recycled and his parents were really strict about recycling.
This guy was really nice but totally and utterly militant about recycling and would go back through the bins, she found that part quite odd and I remember it being a bit much too!

Starlightstarbright1 · 17/12/2022 21:03

Yes extreme.. but expired medicine should be returned to the chemist.

SomethingOriginal2 · 17/12/2022 21:10

He takes your used tampon applicators out the bin? 🤢

StrawberryWater · 17/12/2022 21:16

OMFG

He should not be putting used tampon applicators in the recycling bin. It’s unsanitary and a health hazard. Tampons have had contact with blood, and since blood is considered as human waste, most recycling aces streams can’t and won’t process them.

StrawberryWater · 17/12/2022 21:17

*most recycling places can’t and won’t process them.

Sennelier1 · 04/03/2023 09:26

Why don't you recycle yourself I wonder? Like cardboard paracetamol boxes with the paper-recycling?

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 04/03/2023 09:31

That would make me feel very uncomfortable but I can't quite find the words to say why. If feels like a massive breach of privacy.

MissMaple82 · 04/03/2023 09:40

You take expired medicine to a chemist to be disposed of. Well done to the partner

Tratjymp · 04/03/2023 09:47

Tell him to stop acting like a nutter.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 04/03/2023 09:49

I would find my OH ducking through a bin so deeply unattractive and mean TBH I’d find it hard to find a way back to liking them after that. What a weirdo

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 04/03/2023 09:49

*rifling

Branleuse · 04/03/2023 10:35

CocoFifi · 04/03/2023 10:34

Why the need to swear?

Where is the swearing?

Mosaic123 · 04/03/2023 10:38

I hope he washes his hands properly after doing this!

It does seem a bit extreme.

Why the need to swear?

Which of my words was a swear word? Was it "recycled" or "old thread"???

LikeTearsInRain · 04/03/2023 11:14

Have you considered a moon cup? Maybe he would be impressed by your attempt to be more environmentally conscious

Sennelier1 · 04/03/2023 18:59

@mangoontoast , why, does it bother you? Indeed it's old(ish) but the question is still valid.
