My bf is really into recycling and I make an effort to recycle too. We moved in together 5 years ago and a few times I found him opening and searching through bin bags for things to be recycled and thought he was just being really environmentally aware.
Over the last few weeks I had a clear out of tons of old things and wrapped them up well in bin bags. I made sure to wrap them tightly because there was some expired medicine in there and we have a dog and a toddler.
Last weekend I emptied the recycling and found 5 small cardboard boxes from expired paracetamol packets in the recycling so he must have opened the bag and picked out the 5 boxes from the stuff I threw away.
Today I found him searching through the bathroom bin for things to recycle. There is a bin strike at the moment and nowhere to put the rubbish or I would have emptied the bin once it was half full. After living with a woman for 5 years is it unreasonable to expect him to understand that there might be wrapped up sanitary towels or tampons in the bathroom bin that shouldn't be picked through? Isn't searching for used tampon applicators in a bin a bit extreme?
