Just found out my that majority of family are going out for a meal on Boxing Day as I called one of them to invite them to my house for lunch and he said oh we’re all going out, such and such said that she would ask you too. She hasn’t and I feel like I’ve been left out… Have I or are they still yet to ask?

Is this immediate family? If so then yes they just haven't mentioned it to you yet. Presumably you're normally invited to these things, so no need to think you've been shunned this time.

LubaLuca · 17/12/2022 15:41

Although it does beg the question of how many have they booked for. Quite an assumption to make that you'll be able to be there. Whoever organised it should have been a bit more careful before booking for a large group on a day that a restaurant wants to be fully booked for.

girlmom21 · 17/12/2022 15:45

How recently was it organised?
Could they have asked your DP or DM who've said you wouldn't fancy it for any reason?

Kinder78 · 17/12/2022 15:56

No - I hadn’t heard a word about until I called this morn to invite DB.

Don't know. Hopefully they are yet to ask!

steff13 · 17/12/2022 15:58

Call "such and such" and invite her to your house as planned. She'll either invite you to the family thing or she won't. Then you'll know. 🤷‍♀️

SisterCassandra · 17/12/2022 15:58

You’ve been left out I’d say. Everyone has plans for Boxing Day by now It’s only next weekend.

Phone whoever was supposed to ask you and tell them you've spoken to your DB and would love to come.😃

OP was just inviting people today, apparently.

Kinder78 · 17/12/2022 16:07

We usually go the person's house on Boxing Day I called but I thought I could save them the work and host here.

Any reason for such a late change and nit calling them first. Surely if they usually host then you would ask them first before the other guests?

TidyDancer · 17/12/2022 16:17

Do you know how long the arrangements have been in place? It does sound a bit late for an invitation now but I suppose it's possible they've lost track of who they've invited.

Any falling out this year? Or childcare issues and it's an adult venue (etc)?

Ellie1015 · 17/12/2022 16:32

I would assume it was an oversight unless there are other times this person has excluded you.

So why didn't you speak to them first? Inviting your brother and not them seems strange.

Kinder78 · 17/12/2022 16:41

Sorry some context - this other person usually hosts separately. The person I was inviting, I go to theirs or I did previous to marriage but my marriage has broken down this year. I am probably too sensitive.

Just ask the person organising the meal?

Kinder78 · 17/12/2022 16:42

I will. Thanks.

The person she called was her brother, the usual host.

girlmom21 · 17/12/2022 16:59

@LT2 I'm so confused by the op's change from obviously talking about her brother to being so vague Grin
