We’re all so ill

What is going on with the violent & never-ending illnesses this year. DS1 came home from school at the end of Nov with flu, sat under a blanket on the sofa for 10 days & then went back to school. Immediately upon his return DS2 (4) caught it & repeat with him for the full ghastly period. Then, last Sat, down I came with it - full-blown, face-exploding, sneezing, shivers, fever, nausea etc etc. Still feeling exhausted/congested. Wed this week just gone DS1 comes home from school coughing. Cue next two days coughing, shivering, vomiting & generally feeling wretched. Yesterday DH starts with the cough, shivers, aches. DS2 pale & lethargic this morning, not eating so awaiting the fresh hell of him about to get sick again.

I’m not sure how much more of this shit I can take. The house is in a terrible state, so untidy. I’m exhausted, we haven’t done tree/anything Christmas related because we’ve all been so so rough for the last month. We all had the flu jab this year, I know it’s not guaranteed to give complete protection but I was hoping it would take the edge off. Appreciate these illnesses may not have been flu but they sure felt like it in terms of symptoms/severity etc.

I’m so done. I’ve never known a winter like it for illness

Stop having the vaccines. I have been ill for the entire last 2 winters, so went without flu and Covid vaccines this year. Not one cough/cold/sniffle to date. DH on the other hand had both of his, and has had 3 awful viruses on top of each other.

And I take a high dose vitamin C every day.

Totally agree! None here and we are all great! Haven't had a flu since 1997.

As for the people who have six vaccines......when do you stop realistically??🙄

How does that make sense?

I’ve had the 4 covid jabs that have been offered to me and my annual flu jab

dh and dc1 have had the 3 covid jabs that they’re eligible for and dc2 has had 2 covid jabs and their annual flu vaccine.

I take a daily multivitamin and encourage good hand hygiene for all of us.

we’ve had the odd sore throat and sniffle between us so far this autumn/winter.

we are fortunate that our home is in good condition and well heated and we eat well and keep ourselves fit.

I had my 2nd dose of covid after my 3rd Jab. I felt shit for 2 days, then felt fine. If getting jabbed makes me respond to illness like that, then you can prick me like a cheese and pineapple hedgehog.

8 weeks of being really unwell, on and off here. Lone parent. Probably going to get fired, but I’ve been having flu like symptoms for upto a week at a time, then I’m sort of okay for a week, then back to being genuinely only my arse and sobbing with exhaustion/frustration/pain. I’ve never been like this, ever.

Pelo22 · 18/12/2022 20:08

@Marmunia10661975 I don't.. I will get boosters as often as needed
Unless you're so immunocompromised that you get a side room in a&e, have emergency antibiotics at home, don't wait in a doctors waiting room and have to inject yourself with horrific drugs weekly then don't eye roll at the people that are unfortunate enough to need more protection

Scarfweather · 18/12/2022 20:22

Ditto, OP. We’re all down with flu and Christmas prep has gone out of the window….

justasking111 · 18/12/2022 21:32

DIL has a house full of sick children. Everyone is banned from asking her if she's ready for Christmas

We don't. We will carry on having them whenever we are called to do so, just as we have the flu jab annually and the pneumonia jab every five years.

Because if we don't, illnesses which are likely quite mild for you could kill us. As Covid killed someone I know with my health condition and on the same immunosuppressant medication as me - he was 43, otherwise well, with two young DC. But this was summer 2020, prior to the vaccines. He was not old or frail or at death's door, but he Covid took him anyway.

I've had covid six times since my first vaccination (one of the joys of being immunosuppressed) and not once have I been ill enough to even need to phone my GP for advice. Twice I was asymptomatic.

AutisticLegoLover · 19/12/2022 10:13

Ffs now I'm ill too and waiting for antibiotics and steroids to be prescribed. What crap timing.

BrutusMcDogface · 19/12/2022 10:17

It’s been a shocking winter so far. Get well soon everyone 💐

beezlebubnicky · 20/12/2022 01:38

I am not hugging people at the minute! Stay away from me 🤣🤣.

The amount of mingers in Aldi the other day, coughing and spluttering into their hands or even on to the products! 🤢. When was that ever okay? And they might want to consider wearing a mask and not charmingly spreading their nasty lurgy ahead of Christmas...

mathanxiety · 20/12/2022 02:44

Aw, that's truly horrible. There's nothing as stressful as a family all coming down with something one after the other and the feeling of impending catastrophe.

I hope you can all steer clear of other people over Christmas and just order in food or soup and try to shrug off the pressure to have a festive time.

I mean, the schools need to have a circuit break @Mariposista as the kids are just coming home week after week with some new illness

Still an idiotic opinion.

What do you think happens when you lock people down and stop people from mixing? When people start mixing again, how do their bodies react to illness? Have you made the link yet? There is this thing called your immune system that doesn’t react well to being locked down. Look it up.
