Leaving 14 year old to babysit

Do people think it's ok to leave a 14 year old to watch their 7 year old sibling at home for half an hour while running a quick errand?

Yes, of course.

Flangeosaurus · 16/12/2022 19:22

Yes of course it’s fine. I used to babysit for money for whole evenings at that age. Honestly what age do you think would be ok?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2022 19:23

Yes for running a quick errand or similar. I’d leave my 14 yr to watch my 8 yo for this.

Not for an evening out though

Neolara · 16/12/2022 19:24

Yes. Completely fine. And we used to have 14yos regularly babysit in the evening, as did most of my friends.

AFS1 · 16/12/2022 19:24

Yes. My 14 yr old has picked her 8 yr old brother up from school a couple of times (she tends to break up earlier than him) and has looked after him until I’ve got home at 5:30ish. We’ve also had one go leaving them both in the evening (although only when I’ve been very close by so far).

course its fine, when i was 14 i was being a paid babysitter for neighbours kids

Reindear · 16/12/2022 19:25

Of course. I used to be a babysitter at 14. Would babysit kids aged from baby to about 6 all evening till around midnight to earn money

Glittercraftqueen · 16/12/2022 19:26

I was babysitting at 14/15 for money too.

It's ok I might need to do this tomorrow. It is a very quick errand not a shopping trip or a night out. Haven't done it before and just wanted a bit of reassurance. Both are sensible.

Op. Of course this is fine.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 16/12/2022 19:27

Yes if the 14 year old is responsible.

NotToBeOrToBe · 16/12/2022 21:15

Yes, of course.

Crunchingleaf · 16/12/2022 21:20

I was babysitting younger kids then that when I was 14.
30 mins is nothing unless there is a disability or something.
