Chest pain question!

I don’t get chest pain usually so this is something I’m really unsure about!

ive noticed over the last week that the cold weather is giving me chest pain. It’s only when I breath in too strongly/deeply- as long as I breath relatively shallowly it doesn’t hurt but when I try and take a normal, deeper breath it feels like I’m being stabbed straight in the centre of my chest between my breasts. It’s only happening in the cold weather and isn’t as bad if I’m standing about- it gets worse on walking. It’s a really sharp and horrible pain and usually gets better when I go inside to a warmer environment.

I don’t have a history of any chest or health problems- I use a ventolin inhaler but not for asthma, it’s for hayfever because I get wheezy with it, but that’s mainly during the summer months.

does anyone else have any experience of this?

Sounds like it could be pleurisy. Make an appointment with your GP.

Yes could be pleurisy or costochonditis. I get this and it's painful. Try NSaids but get it checked out.

I get this chest pain feeling but only when I'm breathing in cold air. Has always been like this with me. A few weeks back I had jumper and coat on unbottoned, it was a very cold late evening and I remember telling my partner my chest hurts to breathe. I get a stabbing pain and I rushed quicker to get home (we were 5mins away) so I could be in the warmth. I just remember always having this when breathing in very cold air.

Not sure if there's any link but had mild asthma when I was younger but thats it.

That’s interesting that others have had it aswell. It’s strange- the weather has warmed up a bit and the chest pain has stopped, but as soon as it gets cold again it starts and it’s only when I’m breathing in. It’s really sharp and makes me stop breathing in and it only happens when I try and get a good breath, when I’m just taking shallow or normal breaths it’s fine. I’ll make a GP appointment for it this week just to get it checked out.
