“Diana would have been proud”

tearsbeingwashedaway · 15/12/2022 22:07

I keep seeing this comment and how Harry is like Diana.

Aibu to think none of us know how Diana would feel about any part of what’s happened.

Meghan whatever you think of her, she’s no Diana.

I think Diana would have fallen out with Meghan - probably within a month of meeting her🤣

Dulcetto · 15/12/2022 22:58

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 15/12/2022 22:53

I think Kate is extremely happy and comfortable with her lot and realises and embraces the over privilege she has with v little complaint. I think William purposefully picked someone not like his mother so as not to recreate his parent’s mess of a marriage

It was, admitted, a poor attempt at humour because you, me, and everyone on this thread, has literally not got a scooby what is really going on.

TBH I picture them all to be exactly as they are on The Windsors and nobody can change my mind 😂

Dulcetto · 15/12/2022 23:02

😂 Well maybe there are?!

I think most mothers would be pretty gutted if their grown up sons weren't on speaking terms.

I agree with this and have said this to my 3 sons. Whatever has gone on, as a mum I'd be devastated to think they weren't friends and weren't looking out for each other, never mind actually speaking negatively about one another in public!

stayathomer · 15/12/2022 23:12

How do people know whether she’d like Meghan or not? Have they spent a long amount of time with her? Nobody knows what people are like outside of the public Irving together of it all. And all those years ago Diana was probably spoken about the same way when Charles was with her first

Mischance · 15/12/2022 23:13

We never do know what someone who is dead would have thought or felt - but it is a common phrase that is used. It is meaningless in every context.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 15/12/2022 23:14

@stayathomer exactly. The Queen of People’s Hearts (vom more like The Queen of Shagging Married Men) would probably have married the thick sod off to one of her goddaughters anyway.

Indeed!

In 4 days it will be the 10th anniversary of my dad’s death. Lots has happened in that time and People seem to believe that they can speak for him. When DD was born lots of people said “Your dad would have been so smitten with her!” Actually he’d have thought she looked like a jacket potato that someone stepped on and would have been too scared to hold her, it I think people just think of this crap to say when they want to say something nice.

In H&M’s engagement interview I thought it was stupid that he was asked “What would your mum have thought of Meghan”. I mean FFS what did they think he was gonna say?! “she’d have thought she’s a massive twat”. It was the interviewers way of slipping a mention in there of his mum and I’m sure she didn’t mean to be so insensitive but still.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 23:31

Diana hate the institution of the Royal Family and Palace Aides. She said some very similar things to the kind of things Meghan is now saying.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 23:32

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet That really is a vile thing to say. The misogyny is just dripping from your comment.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 15/12/2022 22:11

People speak on behalf of the dead all the time.

TBH Diana seemed to be a toxic attention seeking home wrecking lunatic who is only martyrised because she died young. so I no don’t think Meghan is like her. Meghan is a better woman. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a Meghan fan in the least, but she seems to actually love her husband and I don’t think she’d treat her DC in the awful way Diana treated her boys.

Ouch! How was she a home wrecking lunatic?

It’s not misogynistic to point out she shagged married men yet complained of her DH’s affairs in a TV interview

She had several affairs with married men. It’s pretty well documented!

Lots of questionable behaviour especially around her sons. She admitted poor William used to push notes under the door begging her to let him know she’s ok because she’d locked herself in seemingly having a breakdown.

Thepeopleversuswork · 15/12/2022 23:44

God I swore I'd never comment on one of these threads... but

The Diana adoration is absolutely batshit. She was just a human being, not even (by what I know about her) a particularly great one either, she was not some kind of demigoddess. People actually need to catch a grip.

Absolutely. The ongoing canonisation of Diana is just bizarre. She was a child when she got married and had no idea what was about to hit her. She was then treated very poorly by her husband and his relatives, was very mentally vulnerable and spent her (short) adult life acting out unresolved revenge fantasies against her parents and estranged husband.

She turned her only real strength, her beauty, and her perception as a wronged woman into a sort of currency but created a lot of damage and destruction in her wake, not least to her sons.

I have a great of pity for Diana and think her reaction to the onslaught of shit the RF threw at her was entirely understandable but in no way does she deserve this perception that she was some sort of saint. She was an extremely damaged, woman and it disturbs me that she is held up as some sort of aspirational figure.

And the comparisons with Meghan Markle begin and end with the fact that they were two women poorly treated by the RF.

She was like a candle in the wind.
Unreliable.

Can a candle be unreliable or did you mean unpredictable?

BMW6 · 16/12/2022 00:12

Unreliable is the right word. If you have to use a candle to find your way safely you need a steady light, not a flame that's fannying about, guttering and going out unexpectedly

harrassedmumto3 · 16/12/2022 00:14

My feeling is that she would be so disappointed at their estrangement.

One of my very favourite lines.
And so true 😂

Bouledeneige · 16/12/2022 01:34

I think Diana would be sad as any parent is when their kids fall out. But I imagine she would be unsurprised if she had enough emotional awareness to evaluate personality traits. She was a not very bright, damaged child of a broken marriage and shares many characteristics with Harry. So I expect she'd recognise his neediness, publicity seeking victimhood. No good will come of it for him as it did for her.

Quirrelsotherface · 16/12/2022 06:43

How was Meghan Markle treated badly by the RF?

Was it when the Queen personally invited her on a joint engagement? Or when they welcomed her and the only family she wanted them to know (her mum) with open arms? Or was it when the future King of England took her hand and walked her down the aisle?
Or perhaps when Harry mentioned on a radio show that the RF were the family that Meghan never had?

Do enlighten us!
