You need urgent GP appointment. Are you sleeping as propped up as possible? Is it mucus that you are bringing up?

Sympathies as I have bronchitis which is why I'm awake at an ungodly hour too 😫

Justellingthetruth · 15/12/2022 03:46

@Shereturnsforonemore

had it since friday
tonight the first night sort of ok

lots if hit lemon and honey drinks
gallons of benelyn

i did start to wonder but I started to be better

ofwarren · 15/12/2022 03:51

Pholcodeine linctus is the only medicine I've found that works at night. It's a cough suppressant.
You can buy it over the counter.

Newuser82 · 15/12/2022 04:04

I have e same thing!! Have been in bed with the flu, am getting better but every night am being sick due to coughing. It's horrible!

Summer2424 · 15/12/2022 04:43

Hi, I had a terrible cough when I was pregnant and didn't want to take any meds. I kept a jar of cloves with me including at night and sucked on about 6-7, cough was gone. It's an old skool remedy and it worked for me.
Hope the above helps x

Peanutbuttercookies12 · 15/12/2022 04:51

I'm so sorry you've got this bug. I'm currently recovering from it 1 week after it started and I'm 37 weeks pregnant it has been horrific. I wish I could have taken Night Nurse liquid that would be my usual go to.
I was diagnosed by out of hours with a lower tract respiratory infection and have been on antibiotics for 5 days now. Other than that, peppermint tea, honey and lemon and paracetamol but if I could take something stronger I would.
Sleep propped upright on pillows.
Started off with a mild cold about 16 days ago, had started to feel better then this hit me. Coughing and vomiting violently lasted about 3 days, then antibiotics seemed to control how bad it was. Have pulled all the muscles in my side from it. X

Northbynorthbreast · 15/12/2022 05:06

Watching. I had a massive road traffic accident , hit by two cars in a row. Six broken ribs and broken back. I urgently need to stave off chest infection as coughing is so weak- have tried nebuliser but there’s so little resources in critical care beyond hard drugs. What should I ask friends and husband to bring me to prevent catarrh on chest?

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 15/12/2022 05:23

Me too - though mine is currently 24/7 coughing not just at night.

Am asthmatic and been unwell with a random cough for a few weeks, increased my preventer inhaler on advice at asthma review 2 weeks ago and told to get in touch if it got worse. After 24 hours of increased ventolin usage this week, I had a phone consultation with a Livi GP and I’m now on 7 days of steroids; I sound like a combination of wheezy bellows, a croupy seal and crinkly crisp packets. Desperate to avoid A&E as we have young DCs and no childcare when DH is working (and he’s taken 2 days parental leave already this week so I could rest up!) plus it’s a 2 hour round trip to A&E and others need them more than me!!

Peanutbuttercookies12 · 15/12/2022 05:25

@Northbynorthbreast oh god that is horrific. If I were you I wouldn't be waiting to see if this develops, honestly I'm nowhere near your condition and ive pulled my rib muscles and it is bad. Can you speak to medical and get help before it gets bad? If I wasn't pregnant I would choose hard drugs over having what I've just had. Nothing natural touches it IMO.

Shereturnsforonemore · 15/12/2022 05:43

Up again. god ive never had a cough like this before

Morning OP I think you need to go doctors as you may have a chest infection which will need medication.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 15/12/2022 05:52

GP shout one hundred percent .

keep warm , keep upright .

lots of fluids .

let us know what Dr says. Sounds like you need antibiotics. Good luck

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/12/2022 05:53

Do you have asthma?

that was our son before diagnosis.

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/12/2022 05:57

Definitely see the GP. You must be coughing a lot to be sick. I've got a niggly cough that won't go away. Ended up having loads of tests via A&E because I had chest pains, but nothing showed up.

MaverickSnoopy · 15/12/2022 06:03

I had this and it was whooping cough, not saying that's what you've got but I'd definitely see the doctor. Make sure you're having rehydration sachets and sip lucozade.

Shereturnsforonemore · 15/12/2022 06:53

I'd give gp a call this morning and see what they say unfortunately i dont think they will see me

OP posts:
Peanutbuttercookies12 · 15/12/2022 07:47

@OP I did a 111 form 3am sat morning, call back at 5am was sent to a and e for chest x-ray, fluid drip and antibiotics (albeit over cautious due to pregnancy). Call your GP and if no luck do 111.

Shereturnsforonemore · 15/12/2022 11:19

As i thought gp wont see me even though i started coughing up blood this morning.

Dh is out buying a new cough bottle so hopefully that helps.

Nevertrustasilentpoo · 15/12/2022 13:26

If your coughing up blood. It's serious. Call your midwife and explain the situation. They can get the doctors to do something.

OP, if you are coughing up blood you need to see someone asap. Ring 111 and they will refer you to be seen.

Shereturnsforonemore · 15/12/2022 16:54

I continued to get worse and my gp finally agreed to see me. Ive been prescribed antibiotics and have a chest xray on monday of i dont feel better by then.

Thanks everyone.

mrsbitaly · 15/12/2022 20:05

Glad the GP got to see you, its awful when you have a seriously bad cough especially at night, the antibiotics will hopefully start working in the next couple of days

NippyWoowoo · 15/12/2022 20:33

In the meantime, I have a water bottle on the bedside table and sipping it while I'm having a coughing fit always nips it in the bud for me. Then when it subsides i suck on a lozenge, they're magical

VelvetN · 18/12/2022 10:26

@Shereturnsforonemore really hope the antibiotics start to work for you soon.

I am 18 weeks pregnant and have a dreadful cough too that keeps me up all night long, just feels like it never gets anywhere. I’ve also got loss of appetite and runny nose. I wouldn’t mind if this was a one off but I haven’t been well once this pregnancy! I’m going to try to go to the GP tomorrow as worried it is bronchitis, it’s just so hard to imagine that the baby is okay when you feel this terrible

Sending lots of love to all the other unwell expectant mothers!
