Strep a tongue

Hi

I took my son to the GP yesterday as he had a temperature of 40 and seemed tired/miserable. She checked his throat, ears, heart etc and didn’t find anything and suggested nurofen to bring temperature down. She didn’t think it was strep a but didn’t test. Today he is getting better. Temperature is 37 and he seems to be himself again but I have noticed he has a strawberry tongue. Not sure whether I should visit the GP again? If he didn’t seem to be on the mend I definitely would.

Can you email a photo to your GP?

Yumyummyyum · 14/12/2022 20:17

Yeah I’ll see if I can do that, although I do find my surgery quite technology unfriendly but maybe they have improved since the pandemic.

If he's on the mend I'd leave it. This whole strep thing has been blown out of all proportion. We had similar cases in 2018 and it wasn't even mentioned in the press! Loads of people get strep every year and recover quickly. It's tragic for those who have lost children but it's nothing new sadly...it just does happen. Just as flu and RSV and other illnesses kill people. Some of the explanations I've had to give to parents this year about the illness have made them realise what a difficult situation we are in.

I’d not bother unless he gets worse again

very very possible to get strep a and recover quickly without treatment

Thanks, that was what my gut was saying too but just wanted to check in case.

How is he doing today OP?

Yumyummyyum · 15/12/2022 20:00

@CrowInTheSnow Thanks for checking! 100 percent back to normal in terms of temperature and how he is but the strawberry tongue is still there

Hi - 10 yr old son had high temp, flushed face and cough over weekend and what appears to be a strawberry tongue. He’s ok now but not sure if he’s contagious? Was it likely to have been strep even though he didn’t have a sore throat? I don’t really want to give him a course of anti b as he’s fine, but traveling to see Grandma and young cousins over Christmas and don’t want to infect anyone! Thoughts please…tongue was whitish with red bumpy tip…now it’s less white but still red and bumpy at the end like it’s been burnt! Thanks in advance.
