Advice Needed - Bit Bleak!

Posting for traffic.

Family member in care home in the UK (where we're not). End stage serious illness and we're into the last days.

This feels awful to ask, as the family member is still alive, and I hate doing so, but I know that I'm going to need to make arrangements for a bunch of people, fast, during poor weather, fewer flights, and just before Christmas.

What happens? What do I need to know. I haven't been in this situation before and I need to plan to help me process what's happening.

I'm not thinking super-clearly. Any advice welcome, anything might help me order my thoughts.

I’d assess whether you will actually need to make arrangements so quickly, when I’ve had family members pass close to the Christmas period before funerals etc. were all held in the new year so had time to arrange

sorry to hear that your family member is so unwell.

Funerals around here, especially if they’re cremations are taking at least 3 weeks at the moment. Some even longer. Do you know what your relatives wishes are?

Hello sorry to hear your news. When my mum in law was close to the end her care home suggested that we let them know which funeral directors we would like to use so the home knew who to contact. I have family in Ireland and they are very quick at funerals there but in England more like 2 or 3 weeks and the funeral home will work with the family as far as possible to allow for arrangements to be made.
So that's where I'd start if I were you.
Hope that helps.
