Feeling like I'm not getting support

Not sure if I'm overthinking this...
Started new job start of October, and although everyone is lovely, I've kind of been left to find my way.
It's a line manager job, so I'm trying to get to know my team and the company I know work for.
I do ask for help and my boss will help, but she's really busy and under pressure so I don't want to seem like a burden.
How long should you take to feel settled/ know what you're doing?!
Maybe I'm being too hard on myself!
When I do try and sort things on my own, I don't feel like I get it right!

I've not had a proper induction/walk round meet ppl, and I'm in an office on my own quite a bit which makes me feel a little alienated. Boss shares hers with others.

My old job suddenly doesn't seem so bad!!

Am I being silly?!

Feel for you. I think it's especially hard when you start a new place as a line manager as your team expects you to know it all and you don't!
It took me six months at least in my latest job to feel like I wasn't totally blagging it every second of the day. A year until I felt I was nailing it.

@Claudia84
Thank you 😊
My boss is like don't stress, you will be fine.
Just feel like I'm failing!

Your boss is right!
It's awful especially when you come from somewhere that you knew inside and out. But one day someone will ask you a question and you'll just start to know it. It really does take time but it will happen eventually.
If anything I am VERY sympathetic to new joiners now as I remember acutely how it felt!

Why haven’t you introduced yourself and done a walk around yet?

These are all things I’d expect people to do off their own back!

StickyCricket · 14/12/2022 18:50

I’d have thought as a line manager you’d do a walk around, introduce yourself and arrange 1:1 meetings with your staff off your own bat.

Yes I have walked and introduced myself and met my team, I meant from a formal induction point of view.
I do feel like I should be having more one to one time with my boss?? Don't think I'm being unreasonable in that respect?

How much 1 on 1 time do you get currently?

Supernovastar · 15/12/2022 20:10

We're supposed to have a 1 to 1 every week for a while, and I've had 2!
