Anything to survive. A young Matt Leblanc is shipwrecked with his family in Alaska.

You're the only other person I've seen mention this film before, definitely one to watch!

Krampus

TheRookie · 14/12/2022 02:54

I watched Snowbound as a child, I got to stay up late after a swimming gala and watched it with my parents! I've always remembered it for some reason but never what it was called! Can't believe that it's just listed here, need to find somewhere to watch it now!

Touching the void is awesome

There's a more recent film with Mads Mikklesen, airplane crash and he walks for miles in the snow. Very bleak (obviously)

Oh that Mads Mikkleson one is fantastic. I went on a whole romp through snowy survival films after that.

What was the one with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba? The Mountain Between Us - that's worth a watch.

The book 'into thin air' is heartbreakingly good, I think Everest was loosely based on it, but I preferred the book. Beautifully written, but make sure you have a box of hankies on standby..

Have you read The Climb by Anatoli Boukreev? It’s the story from his perspective. Interesting read.

I really really like the tv series Shackleton with Kenneth Branagh. Real story, Antarctica, penguins and icebergs, plenty of snow and ice.

NRCOA · 27/12/2022 00:58

Just thought of another one!

The Eiger section!

Thank gid…no one else has ever heard of this!

MadMadMadamMim · 27/12/2022 01:14

Bear Island with Donald Sutherland. Or Ice Station Zebra.

Both Alastair Maclaine adaptations. ( I think it's the Eiger Sanction, btw, not section).

PinkButtercups · 27/12/2022 01:32

Misery. I remember watching this in Uni.

carwashthecat · 27/12/2022 03:38

Wind Chill.. with Emily Blunt

Correct, it is 'sanction'.

I blame the copious amounts of beer.

Scautish · 27/12/2022 11:13

Where Eagles Dare

more wartime thriller but very snowy and exciting.

SequinsandStilettos · 27/12/2022 11:16

Oh. I came here to say Two Night Stand cos they get stuck in a blizzard Xmas Grin

ichundich · 27/12/2022 12:02

The Shining ;-).

StellaAndCrow · 27/12/2022 14:56

Getoff · 13/12/2022 23:36

Centigrade.

True story, American couple driving in Norway, pull over to side of the road in snow storm, car gets buried in snow. They are there a long time.

I'm not recommending it, it's not cheerful, but it gets points for being true.

OMG I've just watched the trailer for Centigrade - what a horrific situation!

It would at least make you feel warm in comparison :)

DC1214 · 27/12/2022 15:05

‘Into the white’ with Rupert Grint

also love ‘Anything to survive’, total classic

‘Frozen’ - quite different from the Disney one!

‘Downhill’ - not a survival film but a good comedy/drama and plenty snow

Krampus

I came on to say Krampus too, it’s hilarious and a bit scary - like Gremlins. Aren’t Xmas horrors great when it’s miserable out there. Hateful 8 a good snow bound one too.

Misery

Yup

hattie43 · 27/12/2022 15:28

Ice road with Liam Neeson worth a watch

hattie43 · 27/12/2022 15:30

Insomnia , Al Pacino robin Williams

hattie43 · 27/12/2022 15:33

There's another one with Liam neeson but I can't remember the name , he plays an ice road sweeper and his son is murdered so it's basically a story of how he tracks down and kills each person responsible.
