Boasting

Am I wrong to think that a lot of parents should show empathy, and not boast about what they are getting their children for Christmas this year?

As everyone is aware we are currently in a cost of living crisis, where people are struggling to heat their homes and put food on the table.

I write this because there is a parent at my childs school, that is continuously boasting about what she is buying her children for Christmas, bearing in mind this said individual is on benefits, single parent with numerous baby fathers. She also takes out loans, uses BNPL Klarna/ClearPay.

One of the other mothers was very upset, and told me that she is struggling to buy her daughter presents this year and it makes her feel terrible, but then she has to hear people boasting.

I am fortunate enough to have not been hit by the cost of living crisis, but it makes me feel sick hearing other people boasting.

Good try….

Aah I would feel bad for the boasty mum too tbh, she is probably showing off because she feels insecure/sad about her situation...especially in the run-up to Chritsmas where ads are full of big happy families.

Flurbegurb · 12/12/2022 19:53

Cool story

Threadkillacilla · 12/12/2022 19:55

Aye ok.

TheSubject · 12/12/2022 19:55

@Girasoli I actually never thought about this.

To the other two individuals troll hunting, if you are looking for a troll please move on. I have no time to make up false stories online.

She’s ‘braggy’ you’re a judgemental snob - naebody wins here.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 12/12/2022 19:56

There's someone like this at my kids school. Just leave boasty mcboasty pants to it.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 12/12/2022 19:58

You don't sound much better yourself op...

TheSubject · 12/12/2022 19:58

@Toottooot I am not being judgemental, said woman has been doing the same thing for years.

It was her own family member that exposed her to one of the other mothers.

I’ve never heard anyone boasting. Also, I don’t care.

You ARE judging her in your OP. I bet she has twins too.

Hopeyoursproutsarealreadyon · 12/12/2022 20:01

I hope you are now on The Awful List op.
If there isn't one then there should be.

How are you not judging her when you have just slated her for being a single mum, being on benefits, having different baby fathers and using klarna 😂

RobinRobinMouse · 12/12/2022 20:02

Is she boasting or just excited and unaware how what she says may affect others?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 12/12/2022 20:07

No, you're not judgemental, not at all. The milk of human kindness positively oozes through you.

How do you know all this stuff about her?

TheSubject · 12/12/2022 20:15

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain

One of her own family members, exposed her to another mother at the school.

I wouldn't give a monkeys what a single mum on benefits was buying her kids for Christmas. Or anyone else for that matter.

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain

One of her own family members, exposed her to another mother at the school.

What does that even mean? Exposed what? That she was on benefits? That she borrowed money for Christmas presents? That she dared to have sex with two different men and still wants her kids to have Christmas presents??

Literally none of this is any of your business. Move on. Stop bitching about other women.

OneTC · 12/12/2022 20:24

Phew

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 12/12/2022 20:25

'Exposed'? Exposed what exactly?

I am no fan of Christmas, stupid consumer fest and time of over indulgance that it is, but what, precisely, has the subject of your judgmentalism done wrong?

Are those on benefits, single parents or users of credit (or, worse still, an aggregation of all those things) not allowed, in your world, to buy presents for their children?

Boobingtons · 12/12/2022 20:31

Imagine being that bothered about what children are getting for Christmas.

Sad, really.

Stressedmum2017 · 12/12/2022 20:34

'Exposed her'.... how vile you and your little cronies are. A coven of witches at the school gates.

God forbid children who probably get less than yours in general have a nice Christmas with some decent presents. Why are you so bitter when you aren't even struggling?

Tollumi · 12/12/2022 20:55

this said individual is on benefits, single parent with numerous baby fathers

Your invitation to judge her only resulted in me judging you, OP.

CarefreeMe · 12/12/2022 20:59

I don’t think anyone should be going around telling people what they’re buying their kids incase it ruins the surprise.

But it’s not boasting is it.

Especially as you say she’ll be paying for it bit by bit anyway, so she’s hardly flashing the cash.

Somethingsnappy · 12/12/2022 21:12

I expect her 'boasting' was probably just excitement and anticipation.

What's your excuse op?
