11mo - Nursery not giving bottles

sjxoxo · 12/12/2022 16:38

I have just picked my baby up from
nursery and lost my shit at the manager. Feel awful. 11 month old. Nursery don’t really tell me about his bottles during the day; only about lunch and naps etc. They might say he had milk at lunch for example. Tonight I specifically asked about his bottles - how many ml is he drinking a day fluid wise- and basically they aren’t giving him bottles like I do at home, despite me asking specifically when he started and several times since. I don’t know if I am BU and they think at 11 months he doesn’t need so much milk now.. maybe. He is my first so I don’t really know! But he is happy at home. Two things for context - I am
not in the UK and my baby is big, he is 12kgs.

At home he has:
first thing: bottle 210ml which is 8oz & breakfast (toast& banana)
11am bottle 210ml 8oz
1pm lunch and watet
4pm snack and bottle 180/200ml 7-8pm
6pm dinner and water
7-8pm bottle 210ml 8oz before bed

i think at nursery he is not getting hardly any bottles during the day. What should I be doing? The manager seemed to think he is having too much milk.. as I am not in the UK I feel they maybe have different guidance but maybe at 11mo he doesn’t need them and she is right? Please tell me what your 11/12mo are having milk wise and should I force them to give bottles? I am worried he’s having not much fluid..
please help.. I’m worrying about it 😞
thanks all xox

Sorry for the typos. The 7-8pm is meant to say 7-8oz! As where I am they use ml not ounces so just for clarity. Xx

It is quite a lot of milk
By that age both my kids only had 2 milk feeds per day and had water with their meals and snacks

DisneyToDucks · 12/12/2022 16:44

I'll be honest that does seem like a lot of milk on top of meals. Is this formula milk? Guidance in the UK is formula until they are 1 years old then you can move to cows milk but I think it is around 400-500ml a day! Happy to be corrected though. If you're in a hot country however fluids are obviously more important.

Jingleoverthatway · 12/12/2022 16:44

Mine was on morning and bedtime milk (usually 8oz) from around 11 months, he had three bottles from 9months. 95th centile for both height and weight since birth.

4 bottles plus 3 meals and possibly snacks seems like a lot for a nearly 1yo to me.

I'm UK, this is US, but may be useful

Thankyou all for your replies - I’m happy to be told that it’s ok for less milk as this is what they’ve been doing (I think) for the last couple of months and it just put the fear of god into me that he would be hungry/has not been getting enough so it’s reassuring that the consensus is it’s a lot!! Thanks so much. The mum guilt is heavy here 😬 x

Mine didn’t have anywhere near that amount at that age. Maybe 2 bottles a day?

DisneyToDucks · 12/12/2022 16:48

There is nothing to feel guilty about. Is he healthy and happy? He's a decent size by the sounds of it and he isn't crying from hunger, you're doing a fab job!

Rinatinabina · 12/12/2022 16:48

I think that age DD was having 2 bottles a day, one before a nap and one before bedtime.

MusicstillonMTV · 12/12/2022 16:49

We had the same experience with nursery - I think they just find it annoying - our DS was very milk focussed and probably had too much at home in some ways it was good for him to get past that and have more solid food. He used to have an extra bottle at home at around 5/5:30 and then a bedtime one for a while as he adjusted

bunnypenny · 12/12/2022 16:53

My 11month old has a bottle in the morning and one before bed. At nursery I think she just drinks water from a cup with her lunch.

upfucked · 12/12/2022 16:58

DD1 had less formula is 24 hours than yours does at 11 months. We saw an NHS dietitian who said to stop formula (CMPA) and after an analysis of her diet said she was fine to move onto a non dairy milk. You baby is a maximum of 4 weeks off dropping formula. Your baby is having a huge amount of formula for an 11 month old.

formulatingAresponse · 12/12/2022 17:42

He needs actual food instead of unnecessary milk

Badgirlriri · 12/12/2022 17:45

Way too much milk.

Gh12345 · 12/12/2022 17:45

By around age 1, they should only be having milk in morning and night. Sorry this might not be the answer you wanted OP. Looking at your schedule, I’d give him a morning snack instead of milk. Up cheese and yoghurts for the calcium if he likes them. :)

Jubaju · 12/12/2022 17:58

It seems a lot of milk. meals are usually aiming to replace the milk once weaned and should be offered after their lunch dinner etc.

how much does he eat? I’d probably stop giving day time milk in bottles and offer in a cup as a start and after lunch, not before.

am milk
before nap milk
one before bed

he is quite big, so maybe he just needs more food and less milk

Champsandbubbles · 12/12/2022 18:01

I think by 11 months milk should reduce and be food focused with milk morning and night x

PanettoneMoly · 12/12/2022 18:06

DD went to nursery at 10 months and refused point blank to have any bottles at all from day 1. I sent her in religiously with sterilised bottles and formula for 2 months until she hit a year and I gave up.

MMDSH · 12/12/2022 18:14

We weaned my twins of bottles at 12 months, they went from three a day to none after a week. Their nurse encouraged us to do this because it's bad for their teeth, not just the bottles but also the excessive milk. It's a good idea to let your son mostly drink milk from cups at 11 months and it's definitely not necessarily for him to have bottles in nursery as well as at home. I understand the worries though, you sound like a lovely mum, OP.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 12/12/2022 18:21

That’s way too much milk, you owe nursery an apology

GiltEdges · 12/12/2022 18:26

Why did you “lose your shit” at the manager? You say your concern is your DC being hungry, but have you actually seen anything to indicate this is the case? Given that the opinions provided on this thread seem to suggest that you’re the one providing too much milk at home, do you plan on apologising to the nursery manager for the way you spoke to them?

Hankunamatata · 12/12/2022 18:32

Id cut out the morning and afternoon bottles

PregnantAndScared2 · 12/12/2022 18:32

Hi op I work in a nursery. I would say at 11 months 4 bottles is too much. I'd give him milk first thing at morning and last thing at night. Then when he is 12 months or so, move him on to cows milk. You can gradually cut the bottles out over time and start him on cups of milk during the day with morning snack/lunch.

BeanieTeen · 12/12/2022 18:33

I think at that age we were just doing a bottle in the morning and evening. And in a months time your DC is old enough to ditch the bottles altogether, they’re encouraged to drink from a cup. It’s a lot of milk you’re giving at the moment.
