11mo - Nursery not giving bottles

I have just picked my baby up from
nursery and lost my shit at the manager. Feel awful. 11 month old. Nursery don’t really tell me about his bottles during the day; only about lunch and naps etc. They might say he had milk at lunch for example. Tonight I specifically asked about his bottles - how many ml is he drinking a day fluid wise- and basically they aren’t giving him bottles like I do at home, despite me asking specifically when he started and several times since. I don’t know if I am BU and they think at 11 months he doesn’t need so much milk now.. maybe. He is my first so I don’t really know! But he is happy at home. Two things for context - I am
not in the UK and my baby is big, he is 12kgs.

At home he has:
first thing: bottle 210ml which is 8oz & breakfast (toast& banana)
11am bottle 210ml 8oz
1pm lunch and watet
4pm snack and bottle 180/200ml 7-8pm
6pm dinner and water
7-8pm bottle 210ml 8oz before bed

i think at nursery he is not getting hardly any bottles during the day. What should I be doing? The manager seemed to think he is having too much milk.. as I am not in the UK I feel they maybe have different guidance but maybe at 11mo he doesn’t need them and she is right? Please tell me what your 11/12mo are having milk wise and should I force them to give bottles? I am worried he’s having not much fluid..
please help.. I’m worrying about it 😞
thanks all xox

That’s a lot of milk on top of food. My DDs had boob morning and night once weaned and just water during the day from a cup, not a bottle.

I'm a childminder and moving on to just morning and evening bottles is quite normal at that age once they've established eating normal foods.

LBFseBrom · 13/12/2022 08:46

Most babies don't have bottles at that age, op, they have proper meals and a drink. Milk on cereal in the morning usually, maybe a milky drink at night but not bottles.

That seems like too much milk for an 11 month old. By 11 months their main nutrition should be coming from food.

The separate issue is that nursery is not taking on board your requests which is an issue. But you shouldn't have lost your shit at them. They work hard for very little money and I'm sure they haven't given him too few bottles out of spite. Have you apologised? If not I would ring the manager and apologise for shouting but explain your feelings about the milk and ask for their advice/cooperation.

Very few babies nap well at daycare. Not like they nap at home.

This is such an OTT thread - babies vary a lot. Lots still have a bottle at 11 months, milk is still an important part of their diet. Weaning progresses differently for every baby.

Yours does have more milk than the average but to read some of the posts it's like you're talking about a 6 year old

I think the issue here is really that they haven't done what you've asked for your child. Have they definitely not been trying a bottle at all? In my case, my son started to drop milk when he was about 6 months and it started with when he was with his granny - normally he'd have a bottle of milk before naps but he just stopped taking it from her. He was still happy for me to BF him though.

I agree with others that his milk should probably be dropping off but he's your baby, you are the one who knows him best and you've put him in their care. They should be trying to do what you ask or at least justifying why they don't.

As far as the sleep goes though, i found my son always napped differently at nursery (actually he slept much longer there). If it's not effecting his nights i wouldn't worry x

Yes my DH is very very very tall. I know that seems mad but yes he is 2m20!!! He had tests as a child as they suspected a medical condition but nothing came from them. He’s just a giant basically! My family are smaller so not sure DS will hit that height. I didn’t put it in the op as I know it sounds ridiculous!!! A lot of food is consumed in our household 😂

ahh that makes perfect sense then OP , we have family in the usa with dutch ancestry who are heading towards 7 foot .....i can quite see why your baby may be quite comfortably downing the bottles as well as getting a good diet of solids!!!
