I am prescribed an OTC medication as I have a chronic sleep condition, Its promathezine which is generally used in anti histamines and travel sickness tablets. I get them on a weekly basis, they are tiny and very occasionally i drop one, but usually find them, however this week I couldnt find the little bastard anywhere, as it was saturday I went to my pharmacy and explained the situation and attempted to buy a packet avomine ( have had them many times) and was told as I was prescribed them, I wasnt allowed to buy them. I can understand the logic if it was co-codomal or nurofen plus both of which contan a controlled drug, but avomine is safe for older kids, non addictive, im furious tbh, do any of you lovely people know the legalaties

Promethazine is used along with cough syrup for recreational use in the form of Lean - so most pharmacists will treat lost prescriptions with appropriate caution. Irritating, yes, but I wouldn’t resent them for not wanting to take the risk with their license.

You shouldn't have explained, just purchased them with a lie already made up. In my local Asda the assistant seems to see it has her mission to sell as little as possible and night nurse would be banned if up to her. If I can't avoid going there, I have a story at the ready.

Can you not just go to another chemist?

Midgetwithaplan · 12/12/2022 11:58

If you were my patient, I would have refused the sale as well, sorry. If its so safe and harmless, why does your GP prescribe them weekly? That's normally only when a patient has a history of confusion over medication or a history of using too much of a medication, so any request for extra is going to be cause for concern

I think it's because you get the prescription weekly. Go to another pharmacy and ask for some Sominex or Phenergan.

It was only when pregabalin started being presribed that i went weekly ... and that was only weekly as i was being titrated onto it, I asked for everything to be weekly. im prescribed it as was using it 4 sleep, rural area pharmacy kept running out and gp wood rather prescribe that than zopiclone
