I don’t want to go to the O2 tonight.

We are meant to be seeing Alter Bridge. This is very much a DH band but I’m along for the ride. So I don’t feel like it’s up to me to decide not to go.

I was already stressing out about the trains home as the last one is 23.30 (due to strikes) If the concert ends at 22.30 that leaves us an hour to get out of the stadium and then a 10 minute tube to London Bridge. I think that’s tight.

And waking up this morning to all the travel disruption has just about killed it for me.

DH is more optimistic and thinks we’ll be fine. I think we’ll be lucky to get there let alone home.

Driving wouldn’t help because the M25 is closed both ways apparently.

We live in West Sussex. Wwyd? What’s it actually like out there travel wise and will it be any better by this evening?

I went to see them in Birmingham last night and the encore finished around 22.50, just so you can factor that in to your planning if your DH is likely to want to stay to the end.

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 09:07

Anyone?

How fucked are the trains and how likely are they to be unfucked by tea time?

Go but leave early?

Thank you! We had already pretty much decided we’d have to leave before the end. no way we’d make it out and back to LB by 23.30.

At the moment, due to last night's snow, train services are disrupted.

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 09:10

I’m actually more concerned that the trains will just not be running at all later.

And my worst case fall back of getting a taxi home looks like a no go either.

And we both have work tomorrow so can’t stay over.

I never get putting all the time, effort and money into seeing a band you presumably love and then leaving early. Take warm clothes, leave them on the car if you need them and enjoy all of the show.

ToFindNewWays · 12/12/2022 09:14

But she doesn’t love them. It’s her DH’s choice.

No way would I go. Freezing temps, travel disruption, suspended services…it’ll be a nightmare.

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 09:15

This looks promising…

I don’t want to go to the O2 tonight.

I couldn't make it in to a concert during the strikes a while ago, I rang the O2 and they happily refunded my tickets without question. They weren't even insured.

So there is that option.

DunkingMyDonuts · 12/12/2022 09:17

Why cant he go alone or take a mate using your ticket? Up to him to sort it then

Anjo2011 · 12/12/2022 09:25

I understand where you are coming from. The weather in itself is unpredictable but mixed with the train strike tomorrow it could be a real PITA. The rail network like to cancel trains last minute and if you only have the last train home to rely on and no back up I would be feeling the same. Can you book a hotel for tonight? Same issues for us, my DD is meant to be going to a gig in London tonight, we live in East of England , trains are all cancelled due to weather and roads are not good. She doesn’t get that the chances of getting there and back are slim but that’s another thread altogether. The best thing is they cancel , or you book a hotel. Good luck. You won’t be the only one feeling like this.

Unicorn717 · 12/12/2022 09:26

I probably wouldn't risk it. With all the strikes and the weather at the moment (seems to be snowing in most places), anything could change and it would be tight getting there in time anyway.

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 09:30

I’m gutted really. This was DHs birthday present.

But I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

We were at Wembley last night, tubes were closed and hardly any trains. We got the 12.07 train at 1.35. No Ubers were interested in the fare. Buses were fine. There wasn't even that much snow in London at that time.

imnotthatkindofmum · 12/12/2022 09:32

Don't go they're shit and boring. Seen them accidentally while waiting for another band at download. Was bored out if my mind!

Thesenderofthiscard · 12/12/2022 09:34

You'll be cutting it fine! I would leave a little earlier from concert and leg it to LB. But yes, with this weather it might be dodgy. Do you have kids to get back to if you end up in a Premier Inn??
Keep an eye out, Sussex travel is a nightmare because of the snow ...

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 09:42

Absolute worst case scenario we could stay over but then I’m not sure how we’d get back at all. The trains are completely cancelled from Tues-Thursday as far as I can see.

I just think the whole thing is far too much risk.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/12/2022 09:46

Just take the car and don't use the m25.

CallMeDaphne · 12/12/2022 09:59

With the strike on the 13th I think it is very likely that a lot of the late trains will end up being cancelled.

With the strike on the 13th I think it is very likely that a lot of the late trains will end up being cancelled.

This is my main worry.

And then the weather on top of that. It’s just too much risk.

The last concert we went to was Milton Keynes and it took an hour to get out of the stadium. Then none of the pre booked taxis turned up (we were staying over) so us and 200 other people were milling around a car park for two hours before the venue laid on some buses back into town. It was so stressful and miserable. Going into this one KNOWING it might be painful/impossible to get home just seems madness.

Driving’s not an option I don’t think. There’s disruption on the roads as well and it’s too late to prebook parking so that would be chancing it.

Go with your gut on this. If dh wants to go, let him. The entire experience would be ruined for me with the worry about getting home after.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 12/12/2022 10:13

If you leave at the end with everyone else you will get caught up in a queue to get into the tube station so although the journey is short it might take you longer than you expect to actually get onto a tube. If you are restricted by a particular train you'd be better to leave a bit before the end to miss the crowd.

JusteanBiscuits · 12/12/2022 10:15

Tube and trains screwed, roads screwed. I am betting it gets cancelled.

RethinkingLife · 12/12/2022 10:18

I've a ceremony to attend in London but I'm thinking of cancelling. My trains are already cancelled or heavily delayed and I'm concerned that my train home being cancelled altogether with tomorrow's strike as well.

When I was invited, I asked if there was any chance they'd consider a hybrid event instead but the organisers refused. I specifically mentioned weather + travel disruption through industrial action but they were convinced neither of these would be problematic.
