I don’t want to go to the O2 tonight.

We are meant to be seeing Alter Bridge. This is very much a DH band but I’m along for the ride. So I don’t feel like it’s up to me to decide not to go.

I was already stressing out about the trains home as the last one is 23.30 (due to strikes) If the concert ends at 22.30 that leaves us an hour to get out of the stadium and then a 10 minute tube to London Bridge. I think that’s tight.

And waking up this morning to all the travel disruption has just about killed it for me.

DH is more optimistic and thinks we’ll be fine. I think we’ll be lucky to get there let alone home.

Driving wouldn’t help because the M25 is closed both ways apparently.

We live in West Sussex. Wwyd? What’s it actually like out there travel wise and will it be any better by this evening?

I would drive, get their sharpish and park at a carpark other than the official 02 carpark. Get away before they finish the encore and you won't get caught up in traffic/ the rush to get away

TheTeenageYears · 12/12/2022 10:24

Book parking at the O2 and drive if it doesn't snow again today - I wouldn't risk the train with strikes from tomorrow.

user1634987 · 12/12/2022 10:24

Would he maybe go on his own or with a friend instead, DH would do this as he would rather that than me coming along wittering about it.

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 10:26

I should say DH is on board with not going, he’s just slightly more invested in it. But he agrees it’s risky.

We don’t need to make a decision until about 3pm anyway. It might be out of our hands by then.

I would not go, much as it will be very disappointing.

musicforthesoul · 12/12/2022 10:34

I'm going to the same concert tonight. Need to get back out on the last train as well. Already accepted I'm going to need to leave early but am still going.

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 12/12/2022 10:38

Can't you leave earlier - e.g. 10:15ish rather than wait until 10:30? I know its missing more of the show but you'll hopefully be out the stadium before madness ensues!

diddl · 12/12/2022 10:50

If moving dates is a possibility I'd look at that.

CatJumperTwat · 12/12/2022 10:58

The trains are incredibly fucked. I'm working from home because there were literally no trains to my stop near London Bridge this morning.

WhenDovesFly · 12/12/2022 10:59

My DD went to the Jingle Bell Ball last night at the O2 and got out quite quickly, even though loads of people were getting excited at the fresh snowfall and were having an impromptu snowball fight. She got on the DLR and was home 20 mins later.

Hoolihan · 12/12/2022 11:03

I also live in W Sussex and I can't even get into Brighton on the train today! Nothing running in either direction. I would not voluntarily go into London today, or indeed this week.

Frabbits · 12/12/2022 11:12

diddl · 12/12/2022 10:50

If moving dates is a possibility I'd look at that.

It's a band on tour and a one-off gig.

It won't be cancelled because the trains are a bit ropey, the band/o2 would stand to lose a shitload of money if it was.

OP, just drive it and park in one of the millions of carparks that are in london. You are being a bit dramatic.

HowCanIPayItForward · 12/12/2022 11:13

I went to a gig at the O2 a few months ago and queued about 40 minutes just to get into North Greenwich station. And that was purely down to the large numbers leaving the concert.

Given your tight timescale to get to London Bridge and the high likelihood of travel disruption carrying on into the evening I don't think I'd risk it unless you could either drive or book into a hotel nearby.

I thought the strikes were tomorrow/Wednesday? Travelling from Essex to Wembley for The Cure tonight, it's not too bad here and it's not supposed to snow anymore today so I'm just hoping for the best. I spent far too much on these tickets to just not go tbh

Who is your train provider? Greater Anglia is a mess at present. All of my trains are cancelled or running approx 1hr late.

The night before a strike, because they're repositioning trains for the first day after the strike, the trains can be disrupted from 19:30 onwards

whynotwhatknot · 12/12/2022 11:53

the tube at north greenwich is very busy when everyone is coming out -you can wait upto an hour to get on a train there an thats on a normal good weather day

either drive there or cancel

It is Greater Anglia but the trains are running with fairly minimal disruption according to live departures from the station I need, last train back leaves Liverpool Street at 12:46am so it should be okay

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 12:32

I’ve applied for a refund. Southern rail are saying problems all day, don’t travel unless essential.

sounds like the best option

Blughbablugh · 12/12/2022 12:46

I can absolutely understand your concern, especially if you aren't really in to them. However I went to see them last night in Birmingham and they were incredible as were Halestorm who I'd never seen before but would definitely again! I may be biased though as AB are my favourite band and we didn't have the weather and travel disruptions you have.

HangryFeminist · 12/12/2022 12:53

If you can’t get your refund and still want to go, I’d suggest parking at Epping and taking central line down to Stratford.

I don't think that train will be running, because there are strikes on the 13th and that would be included.

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 12/12/2022 13:19

I've done O2 to home a few times without having to rush too much for the last train. Obviously that was without train strikes etc though.

Where are you in West Sussex? I'm near Gatwick so have managed to at least get to there and get a bus. I don't know if that's possible for you.

One time we missed the last train home I managed to book a National Express coach to Gatwick and bus home from there. (Again, no train strikes. Last time I tried to do that with train strikes they'd all been booked in advance)

Well it's still on the live schedule as of right now.

FleeceDuvet · 12/12/2022 13:38

The last train is usually 1am ish. But tonight it was 23.30.

Southern rail website is saying everything is fucked. And the Jubilee Line then has severe seats. So I doubt we can even get there.
