Time off for a cough.

I know my toddler isn't well and I don't think it's unreasonable to keep him at home. However I worry about what my manager will think if I phone up tomorrow morning and say I need the day off because of a cough.
Obviously loads of bugs going round, nursery have had cases of Scarlet fever, Covid and D&V (no Strep A yet thankfully) as well as the usual colds.
DS has had a horrible cold for days and developed a nasty cough on Friday morning which has kept him awake during the night. . I think he had about 3 broken hours of sleep Friday night. Last night DH stayed awake a DS slept on him so slept a bit better. He's asleep on me at the moment and I know he's not well enough for nursery but is it a bit pathetic to phone up work and ask for time off because my son has a cough and I'm exhausted.
Also not sure how long we can go on with the current sleeping arrangements although DS seemed a bit better today.
I suppose I am asking if you would find it reasonable to take time off work in this situation?

Not unreasonable at all, you don't have to give too much info to your boss or for your reason of absence. Just say LO is unwell and unable to attend nursery

MadameDe · 11/12/2022 23:52

Definitely reasonable. Have you taken her temperature?

MadameDe · 11/12/2022 23:52

I think saying she hasn't slept also helps the cause.

Overthebow · 11/12/2022 23:54

Not unreasonable as long as you’re asking to use annual leave or unpaid leave.

Youdoyoubabe · 11/12/2022 23:55

Just say I’ll. details not needed.

Saz12 · 12/12/2022 00:06

DC needs to stay home so you need to stay home to look after her. That’s not pathetic, just how it goes sometimes

No annual leave left unfortunately but am totally prepared that it will be unpaid. I work at the same nursery he attends so they do know he hasn't been well. I just don't like letting them down
